Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

First Oxy Priority?! VH Getting Her Salary Restored ...

Another award for her incompetence. Gets salary restored when she should have been fired
for what she did to the company and to stakeholders who didn't get their say. That's Oxy for you.
Also, shows she isn't some angel per HR, she wants her money back while people are getting laid off.

Lack of dividends are the real mistreatment. Who the hell would sink bunches of cash into a company like this, even at 10 dollars per share. I guess someone who is smart and likes to take a big risk too. Most stockholders of this garbage were holding for dividends. This has been a real let down.

How are the stockholders being mistreated? If you bought during 2020 you got a great deal at $10. You should have easily made up for any losses by now. Unless, of course, you don’t know what you’re doing. #amateurinvestor

You all are in a great situation as long as they keep paying your salary with bonuses and LTI. The stockholders are being mistreated but the company really doesn’t care about the stockholders. You have so much debt that even if there was a massive sell off of the stock and the price fell no one would want to buy the company. Really a very good strategy for people at the top of this organization and not a bad situation for the employees with stable positions.

Many LOxy are in denial of the sh–ty situation that we are all in. Vicki is not the only one to be blamed though.

Go do your research on the SEC site. She hasn’t sold shares in many years. Even if she declines a raise/bonus (which I’ve heard she’s done in the past), the BOD can still vote to give it to her.

VH never impressed a real geologist, we always thought she was an id–t throughout her
Oxy career.

I never said they give her additional shares to compensate for the lower share price of previously awarded shares. I was speaking about future awards. It's based on a specific dollar amount, not a specific number of shares. Of course, that specific dollar amount should be a function of performance. Time will tell...

That is not correct. She gets RSUs that are issued at a certain price but they vest over a period of years. The number of shares do not increase or decrease as the price goes down or up after issuance. If they were issued at $60 and they vest at $25, then they lost 58% of their value, as simple as that. If she sells, it has to be reported through SEC filings.

And the rich just seem to get richer. It is not because they are worth it but that they make the rules. It is all about who you impress. In this case the ceo apparently impressed some gruff old overpaid geologist/ex Wall Street guy.

Total annual compensation has no relation to the current value of past stock awards. Stock is awarded in the form of a specific dollar amount. She will just receive many more shares compared to previous years.

Also, do you really think she hasn't sold any stock from previous years prior to the price collapse? Here base salary is still a small part of her total compensation and a microscopic fraction of her net wealth. Temporarily reducing her base salary was a PR stunt at best.

I could forgive her for a lot of stuff by blaming the situation on covid and oil price and chauvinism but the fact that she chooses to keep certain direct reports who are straight up slimeballs and continue to ruin any chance of LAPC ever trusting our new home is unforgivable.

That is such a load of BS. Who are you trying to impress. She should have been fired more than a year ago.

She took a 81% decrease in pay when we took a 30%, so I consider that fair. She might also get a lot of stock, but the stock was deflated as well, and is still half of what it was back when she took a cut. I say she played her part in helping the company financially, and worked hard for a lot less during these times.

Her total compensation ‘was’ $16 B when Oxy’s stock was valued at $65+. Her stock compensation is now worth $0.4 on the dollar. Nonetheless, we shall see what her total compensation this year would be in light of the significant reduction in base salary. I imagine her stock compensation would also be reduced.

Her total compensation is close to $16 million/year! Her base salary is just a small part.

Who’s getting laid off? And how is this Oxy’s first priority when all employees got back 100% of their salaries several months before VH’s salary was gradually restored?

That was decided by the Board of Directors. And she is still at 75% of her base salary, when everyone got back 100% of their salaries 7 months ago. She was at 19% of her base salary when everyone was reduced to 70%. She was bumped to only 37% of her salary when everyone got back their salaries at 100%. And now the Board increased her to 75% of her salary.

She really should have declined the increase in salary or donated it to the food bank to help some of the people impacted by COVID-19.

Layoffs could be coming soon. Non-production related activities should be reduced as they increase SG&A and don’t give any short-term revenue.

I don’t think she gets to decide if she get’s a partial salary restoration. Someone above her has to decide that, right?
