Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Full time job

I’m trying to find another job, but all I can find are part-time jobs. There are certainly fewer jobs in retail than ever, but is it possible that there are so few full-time jobs among the options on offer? Has anyone managed to get a full time somewhere else? It seems to me that new full time jobs in retail are pretty much non-existent.

Just go get a license for something from pharmacy tech to real estate to phlebotomy... many fields have people doing full time support roles. Think outside of retail, you can do it!

Your best bet is to get out of retail. Doesn't matter how long you have been in it, It's a whole new world now. Try to find an online job. You will have better luck there.

Don’t limit yourself to retail. There are lots of warehouse jobs and companies that are internet based. Many pay better, almost all have better hours.

The only way it’s gonna stop is if people quit shopping at Lowe’s so much or pretty much quit asking questions because there’s not gonna be anyone that can answer them.

As bad as it is, it’s going to get worse. I have it on very good authority that the big box retailers are going to reduce their in-store employee headcounts by 33% in the coming months and years as a reaction to the anticipated $15.00/hr minimum wage—Lowe’s included. Things are already moving in that direction. Front end checkout will eventually be almost entirely automated with perhaps one employee present to help with problem transactions and more automation and robotics will also eventually handle more and more tasks in other parts of the stores. Necessity is the mother of invention. When companies refuse to absorb the added payroll costs and market forces keep them from raising prices, necessity will force them to move into automation and fewer employees. If you’re planning on a long career in retail where you can actually earn a living, be prepared to move into at least a supervisory role if you haven’t already or you will have to consider other career choices.

Retail is now pretty much part-time with no benefits and open availability. Hours will also vary from week to week. Bummer.
