Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Why do people think Walmart is dying?

I don't like this place any more than any of you do but let's be realistic, it'll still be standing long after both you and I are gone. Rather than accepting the false narrative that somehow the giant that's an overwhelming presence in the entire country will magically fail because we want it to, we should be working to change it for the better. Just my thoughts.

Walmart the company isn't dying. Walmart is evolving to the "new normal" and is actually doing quite well. Their digital offerings are robust and make sense. The issue is that the transition of a good bit of the core business from "stores" to "digital" leaves a lot of employees in the dust. Coupled with pressures from governments and society to raise wages and this is why Walmart is on a big automation / robotics push lately. Robots cost less than associates and can occasionally be more reliable workers, at least to those in the home office.

From a pure paper stand point and Wall Street - sure all shows a “healthy “ company. What has died is it’s soul. Which is what happens to any company that follows consultants spreadsheets & inflates their stock price to please Wall Street. Many other giants followed this pattern as well. Someone is always building a better mousetrap. It’s not personal, it’s business.

I would love to see Walmart stick it to Amazon, but Amazon is looking to open 2000 grocery stores in the next year, which is worrisome. Walmart is better at grocery since we have more stores.

Well if Walmart corporate, keeps cutting hours and people, pretty soon they'll be nobody left to keep the store open. How is that a "winning strategy"?

Walmart is actually setup better than Amazon when it comes to shipping items out. It costs Walmart far less compared to Amazon. This will keep them in business and ahead of Amazon for the foreseeable future.

Now, the only issue I see is if Amazon tries to open stores across the country. They've had their chances, but haven't done anything yet. If they do that it will definitely hurt Walmart big time.

When they start making 1 job = 4.
Making reductions in positions and floor associates. Calling a 3rd party for advice on reorganization and structural reforms. It’s simple math and observation. Amazon surpasses Walmart. Black Friday is dying. Walmart is no longer Low prices always.

Financially, Walmart is stronger now than at any point in the history of the company. Sure to a long term associate the constant internal changes s— and not surprisingly, corporate doesn't care what associates think. The pandemic has been and continues to be a gold mine for Walmart, Amazon and Target. Walmart, like Amazon, is a money-making machine that will dominate the retail landscape for years to come. Why will these companies always succeed? Because, just like Walmart not caring about their workers, the American consumer doesn't care about Walmart workers either. People who think Walmart is dying are ignoring the economic realities of the majority of Americans.

It is dying (new structures) less people look around they took a lot from people that do the actual work. No incentives, no perks, no merits, horrible schedules. Huge list! The only thing that will save Walmart is grocery and they aren’t that great in that area either. Produce is horrible!

I guess it’s not since the government shut down several of its competitors due to COVID. Lucky break and they have really taken advantage . How are those share buybacks and dividends working out vs those tiny bonuses for employees?

Change for the better? It is absolutely miserable coming into work everyday no cashiers so we are pulled from our depts go run registers. No help short staffed rude upper management that doesn’t care and we should strive to be better? Upper ups don’t care why should we?

I agree we should be working to make it better. That is just a pipe dream especially for those on the Walmart front lines.

Walmart used to value the suggestions and ideas from their associates. This stopped around 2005 maybe give or take? Someone can probably let me know if that is right or not.

Now you have a handful of know-it-alls in the Home Office that actually believe they know how to run a store when they barely step inside a store themselves except when they do their shopping. They rule in their ivory towers from their gold-plated thrones and can do no wrong.

Of course, those in the stores know otherwise. The Home Office is run by mo–ns who couldn't find their @$$ in the dark using both hands.
