Thread regarding Hitachi Vantara layoffs

Is it worth waiting for severance?

Honestly, I would love to get laid off in this company of empty promises as soon as possible. I'm still sticking around because I would like to get my severance pay. However I’m looking for other options and there are a few appealing ones, but it’s not worth leaving here without severance, right?
Lately, however, I’ve been so tired of working here that I’d rather quit immediately.

Take the package. Invest in the markets. Look for new job.

Always better to look for a job when you have a job. People who wait for a severance need to realize that. Much negotiation leverage (salary, and the general sense employed folks are just more ‘attractive’) is lost. Most importantly, you lose the ability to turn down opps that do not align with your career goals.

I always find it stupid people will start looking only after they’re secured a severance. Practice interviewing beforehand. Get a sense of where the market is. If you happen to get laid off during this ‘search’, then much legwork has been done.

It’s very normal folks will need to ‘settle’ for a job not to their liking after a layoff. It’s ok. Something is better than nothing. Just have a good story to tell, and take care of yourself and family financially in the meantime. Plot your next move strategically (as a ‘gainfully employed’ person so you’re not so pressured). You’re just more ‘in demand’ in eyes of future employers that way.

Best of luck to all.

If you have a 'real' offer - leave now. If you don't, keep looking ferociously until you find something (take a pay cut - we're in a pandemic) or you're forced out the door. No matter how hard it is, a paycheck is waaaaay better than unemployment benefits and severance hands down. Been there....Sticking around just for "the package" is not fiscally worth it unless you're sitting on a pile of cash. Walk away only with an offer in your hand.

There is no talent left to turnaround the company. All talented were lay-off to pay packages for hiring new executives. There will be more layoffs to pay bonus for these executives soon , so better to wait and get severance pay.

I would start looking now. Best case you find something around the same time they give you money to go away, worst case you get the hell out of there before you lose your mind. The severance is nice but it isn't worth the baggage you pick up sticking around in such a bad environment.

Unless you have an immediate offer, I would wait for the severance pay..
