LOA

Is it legal for a manager to try and prevent you from taking LOA?

I work in management. I was advised by HR that each associate is allowed at least one LOA of 2 weeks. After that, you’ll need to submit documentation to HR. You can go away on Family Leave, LOA, and after you use your maximum allotment you can request personal leave.

Is it medical or personal?
Personal LOA is subject to the needs of the business and can be denied by the store manager. Even if you are eligie to take a personal leave, you can be denied.
Medical is a different story. There's rules and laws in placece based on your length of service. Now, you can be out so long that your same job wouldn't be guaranteed to still be available when you returned, but that's a chance you take. But for shorter term leaves your job is protected if you meet the service guidelines.

It isnt their decision to make. It all goes through HR and HR lets the people leader know whether its approved or not (and when it starts & ends).
