Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Stop Polluting Our Fresh Water

Does everyone at the new Cenovus know that each of those Husky 10,000 BPD thermals in Saskatchewan draws 1,260,000 US Gallons of fresh water from the North Saskatchewan River every day? And once it has been used once to produce steam, the produced oily water is disposed of down a well into an aquifer. Ask about the Raw Water Inlet project under construction to draw even more fresh water out of the river.

Glad to be gone from any company that thinks it is an acceptable business practice for the 21st century.

Haha look out for that sour gas atom, guess it is completely different than the H2S atom.

You are dead wrong, CVE doesn't burn sour gas. We burn produced gas with H2S in it, that is not anything even remotely close to sour gas, first thing they are spelled very differently and H2S is a totally different atom from the sour gas atom. Go back to school instead of trolling here!

Over the years, Husky has had a tendency to meet minimum environmental standards and remain somewhat secretive on many of their operational practices. That doesn't mean that they were breaking any regulations but it was an indication that they were happy to take advantage of lax environmental laws . Now, Husky is not the only oil company that does this however they rank very low in terms of transparency and leadership in improving environmental practices.

Wonder if CVE has any new projects that will be using fresh water, that will not be reused and simply disposed of. It's okay though, if they are licensed to do that it must be okay

The environment won’t win with the CVE VP of E&R. Can’t even spell environment, but is great at laying off people.

Since the 1st of January Husky had an explosion in Lloydminster and a fire in Lima, Ohio that has curtailed throughput through the refinery to 50%. A GREAT shout-out for the new company.

Cenovus basically threw out their previous ESG targets in buying Husky. Steam-oil-ratios in the merged company are far higher. Fresh water use is far higher. Massive abandonment liabilities from legacy Husky assets. A recent history of significant oil and produced water spills. Refinery assets prone to accidents and far poorer health and safety record. Basically, Husky is trash.

It’s almost like whoever was doing the due diligence on this acquisition had no idea what they were doing.
