There are 56 stores in the company doing a pilot called innovative Selling. Merchandisers and pricing colleagues will also be working selling shifts, and selling colleagues will be placing and doing markdowns. Starts next month hours will be structured to have more people on the selling floor during open hours when customers are there. Won't be coming in at 6 am, come in one hour before the store open. Signing and visual move to back of house with receiving: Fulfillment moves to back of house too. If it works how they think it will, the rest of the company will be rolled out by this Fall. 📄 🧐

So does this mean they will cut managers? Cause if associates are doing everything why do you need managers? Or op/vs ? I imagine that job will be cut. Associates will just have a iPad to tell them what to do. No need for managers anymore. I say by August 1. Same time frame they cut Coo. So it makes sense of why they cut him

Checked our stores Organizational chart....noticed every support college has the words “retail sales” at the beginning of their job title now!! Does that mean we are a pilot store for this new plan? Not one Manager in our location has mentioned any of this.....Hmm?

I'm just wondering if all 56 pilot stores are located at a B & C malls location? Our store is a growth store located at a C mall in South Texas and now it's a pilot store.

Support has to ring at the register if no sales associates are available. looking at the job boards it looks like they will have to have credit goals as well. go to the job boards and look up Retail Receiving Support Associate and Retail Mechandising Support Associate for the job descriptions of the "new" positions. The list of tasks under merchandise Associate is ridiculous.

Having support doing their thing during store hours kind of feels like your at a grocery store late at night everyone's unpacking stuff and signing and I guess I get the whole they want it to look like we have more employees working than we do but it's only going to annoy the customer to be told 'sorry I can't help you I don't work on the floor' and then go on a scavenger hunt to find a sales associate

I am in a pilot store. Most of the support team will be seeking jobs elsewhere. Instead of the support team coming in early, the will come in 2 hours before store open. what is normally done while the store is closed will now be done while it is open so customers see more bodies on the floor. There will be front of house operations (merchandising and pricing) and back of house (signing, visual, fulfillment, and receiving). Sales will be expected to help with front of house, and merchandising will have to help with customers, including ringing at the register. I understand what they think it will accomplish, but they failed to factor in the fact that we are humans with lives. Most people in support work there for the hours and not having to do sales. I have a feeling there will soon be a lot of job openings in all the pilot stores.

Sears, Jcpenney, and Kohl's are examples of a pilot store. Two of the stores file for bankruptcy. 🏦

Being a 'pilot store' has nothing to do with being a growth store.

The pilot stores are just testing out a new system of working, with the employees being more global than even before (for example, I heard sales associates will be expected to merchandise while merchandisers will be expected to ring customers). It's nuts and it won't work.

Does anyone have a list of stores that are part of it?

What else is coming this July? 🤔 More cuts and no more commission in jewelry complex, cosmetics and Fragrances department. Just remember always expect the unexpected.

This is the future of Macy's. Sooner or later all Macy's stores will turn into pilot stores.

What the hell is a pilot store? Our store in south Texas is a path to growth store. Now our store is a pilot store. We just found out in our morning ralley meeting. That 56 Macy's stores will turn into pilot stores. The company will test this program for a year. If this program is successful, all stores will turn into pilot stores.

Hi. I’m curious if anyone knows if this will affect just a few stores or all. I’m in the southwest and just wondering if my store will be a part of these changes.

As an OVM I'm a store with 2 who also had integrated workforce with our support team 2-3 years ago, we figure one of us should start looking for another job. They won't need both of us.

How would this affect commissioned areas like Jewelry Complex or Cosmetics?

It doesn't affect Jewelry, Cosmetics, or Big Ticket

It's not most stores.... It's 57 stores in 4 divisions across the company.
Two different formats bases on store volume A-F.
Yes merchandisers will be selling, and selling colleagues will be merchandising and doing markdowns.

Go back in 2014 they did a pilot in my store for using an iPod in the women’s shoes department to order shoes and transactions on the floor. Most of the stores got that and look at shoes now it’s a complete disaster

Does this mean merchandisers will be scheduled during store hours to help with sales? I think my store is part of this pilot but haven’t heard anything yet.

I heard the same thing as the first poster, who posted about the "integrated workforce pilot".

My understanding is that most stores (but not all) will be part of it. If you are a high volume store, then this might not affect you.

The poster talking about fat clothes ...BOPIS? Who do you even work for?
And you have missed the mark on most of what you described.

And this is a PILOT....stop telling people that if their store didn't get it that it's ab bad sign.... Totally not true.

I hope it’s true about visual and signing moving to back of house. Sadly since we came back from furlough there has not been a real sign team anymore. The few of us still around do sign on sale days with random associates but we mostly merchandise and are always scheduled under merchandising even on signing days. We’ve been told there is know sign team just a support team. Even visual must work to put out merchandise on truck put away days.

Where can we find this list of stores to pilot these programs?

Nonetheless, it’s nice to see Macy’s FINALLY invest in stores in meaningful ways.

More online and in-store pickup focus. It’s a shift. Moving everything around!

Basically moving jewelry away (and less of it!)
Moving online/pickup registers to more front of stores and moving “Backstage” closer to front as well.

Basically Jewelry and fat clothes at the back.
Bedding/Bath kinda in the middle.
Athletic ware, BOPIS, and Backstage to front.

Oh, and new signs! Basically a store revamp. And if your store isn’t on the “list” to get this revamp that’s a BAD sign!!
