Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

What is worth saving here?

What do you think is the healthiest remaining part of this company? Is there anything left here that is still in good health?
I saw someone write that the only thing worth saving from BN is the school textbooks, and they can go online for everything else. I still think there is much more to be saved. However, there is no interest.

BNED is not currently profitable. According to their SEC filings, which are easily found because they are publicly traded (at least you got that one right) they lost $67 million in the last quarter, and $122 million over the past 9 months.

They lost $42 million for the fiscal year ending May 2020

They lost $27 million for the fiscal year ending May 2019

They lost $262 million fiscal year ending May 2018

They made a profit for the fiscal year ending May 2017. $13 milllion.

So they have lost $440 million from June 2016 to now. I hardly call that being profitable.

It's a separate business. Just staffed by the same people in the same building. And actually profitable too. It's still a publicly traded company you know. Who cares about the sh– business and buildings that will be jettisoned sooner rather than later? If you can staff will just working one bookseller in a small university store, all the better, instead of all the dirty chairs, dirty bathrooms, and useless whining booksellers that have become the prototypical BN experience.

An insignificant portion of the overall business. Selling a few books at Union Square and a few other places is nice, but in the grand scheme of things, who cares?

Nothing you know, except that at some locations BN Education is staffed by the same people under the same roof.

Barnes and Noble College is a separate company. It has nothing to do with the company Daunt purchased.

OMG, it's like making a final stage cancer patient go jogging. There is no reason to keep this company alive. The average B&N customer is 68 years old- dead. For the love of God, pull the plug already!
