Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Customer loyalty?

It is funny to me when I hear from some colleagues that the loyalty of former customers still helps this company a lot. I don’t know how they draw those conclusions, but what I do notice is that BBBY is increasingly losing the loyalty of its customers, assuming the customers have ever been loyal to this company to begin with. Maybe they were loyal to some brands, which unfortunately are no longer here.

If there were enough “loyal customers” that still wanted that in store experience then we wouldn’t be where we are.

Many of our “loyal” customers are bargain hunters. When we don’t have as many bargains they leave empty handed and dismayed. When we have TOO many clearance items it looks like we’re going out of business!! I’ve seen both sides too much lately because there is no BALANCE!! We don’t run great “sales” because we have pathetic coupons that hide the inflated price!

But then when we can’t sell a lot of stuff the place looks disheveled and trashed! I don’t think many customers are....loyal. Many are just bargain scoundrels. And they are leaving because we either don’t have any bargains or the c-ap we do have is poor quality and doesn’t sell.

Sorry my reply came of so mean. You are very much entitled to your opinion. If you enjoy the one on one working with customers why not apply to a department store like Macys. Bloomingdales, etc.? Be warned they are closing stores and their one on one is not what it used to be. Or a small boutique? That type of shopping experience is just about gone in big box stores

I don’t have all the answers. Just a strong opinion I guess. Sorry that was such a long rant.

I posted about stores loosing staff and the state of at least my store. I realize that the face of retail has changed. It has. No doubt. But there is still a very large and lucrative customer base out there that wants to go to a store and have a shopping experience that only old bbb was willing to deliver. There really is. They want to walk into a store and be compelled to look up because everything is merched floor to ceiling and they want basically an escort throughout the store if needed. And they want people with product knowledge and they want every store to be a bit different in a little way. That’s why some customers would say “well my bbb has this or dies that”. That’s what used to happen! I get the importance of the online presence and being current. I really do. And I think it should be pursued. Of course!!! But at the same time there is basic core values...which is what your customer values that are now being ignored and I think until we dial it back a bit and go back to what made us successful in the first place then we are fighting a loosing battle. We may as well shut the doors and hang out an internet only sign.

Unfortunately the world of retail has changed forever and will continue to change. The pandemic just happened to speed up the changes and store closings. Just about every major retailer has BOPIS, curbside, same day delivery or ship from store. If you don’t change you will be gone in a short time. I left BBBY after almost 17 years because of not knowing if the lease was going to be renewed this fall. My advice if you are not satisfied with where you work is to look for a job when you have one. I hope BBBY survives but more closings are coming as they announce the second half of the 200 stores to close.

They aren’t loyal anymore because they don’t get the help they used when they would come in to shop and we are so short handed that the stores are a God awful mess!!!!! My store used to be so busy all the time...and neat and clean and full.....but way before the pandemic happened staff was cut and things went to c-ap and the customers disappeared. Seems like common sense to me.

The entire retail world..especially big box stores have changed because of online shopping and the pandemic. Not sure if people realize this is happening ALMOST EVERYWHERE. Store traffic too. I am wondering what the point of a lot of these posts are. So few positive posts on here

Yeah I have noticed as well that ever around 2019 the familiar faces just aren’t showing up anymore. Even your usual seasonal outdoor items just aren’t selling like they used to even in March 2020 before we shut down. This company has a lot to work on.

Maybe the OP can’t know if the customer was loyal but I do know for a fact that In store sales are down even before COVID and traffic is down 15-35% depending on the store. In conclusion customers that did shop at Bbb are not shopping at bbb anymore. Online sales haven’t made up the difference by the way.

Loyalty of former customers? If they are a former customer they are not loyal. TBH your post is worded very poorly. You notice BBBY is losing loyal customers? (Um..how would you know that?) assuming they were loyal in the first place(well..why did you say they were loyal?) Your post sounds totally made up
