Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Things not true

It makes me sick to see how much corporate marketing BS pixie dust we are sprinkling all around LinkedIn and other social media while... The worst thing of all we are doing it while we have a never-ending streak of layoffs that arguably makes the worst company to work from the standpoint of psychological health. Needless to say, the fact that they tell us that we can get laid off at any point in time regardless of the official layoff cycles makes this even so much more brutal and inhumane.

Every single senior executive should be ashamed.

I laugh at this as all the people who put in extra hours and time on weekends were laid off just as easily as other who rode the bench.

I put in my hours and do good work if I say so myself but they get nothing and I mean nothing extra from me.

They have shown a complete lack of caring for employees so they get my time during work hours and then I’m done. I truly could not care any less about this company as it’s management have shown they couldn’t care about us.

They care about our mental health? How dumb would you have to be to believe that.

FYI... When a company / HR talk about how their corporate culture is "family oriented" or how it is "just like a big family". Red flag. That means you better like our family because you won't be seeing much of your own!

There needs to be a correction to the point about "Do your work and go home" to "Do your work that is of pride, quality and value ...WITHIN YOUR WORKING HOURS". Leave once your time is up and do it again tomorrow. Watch out for management looking to exploit vulnerable workers. An example of a corporation exploiting their workers: My brother-in-law works for Pembina Pipelines as a middle manager. Before the pandemic he was regularly putting in ~30 hours of overtime every week just to "get ahead" and appear like he was a team player. Now that they are working from home, there is still an "unwritten expectation" that you will continue to work those hours, and respond to e-mails and tasks at 3pm on a weekend, or at 7pm during the week. As you would expect, their marriage is suffering and kids don't see their Dad. Company over family. The entire thing sounds completely perverted and toxic. Don't be him or those people. Put in your time and leave to live your one life.

This kind of sums it up @iyq

Always look out for yourself and your interests. Do your work and go home

Every billion dollar company in the world does not have morals, ethics, or integrity. It's strange how so many people in our own backyard don't believe this and suffer from corporate and executive worship. I say this as a longtime corporate cog, never be loyal to a corporation, ever. Always look out for yourself and your interests. Do your work and go home. Never give them the benefit of the doubt.

The term “psychopath” is used to describe someone who is callous, unemotional, and morally depraved. Look around you in the office when you get back. Probably 80% of your C-suite fit into this category.
The Signs of a Psychopath:

Glibness/superficial charm.
Grandiose sense of self-worth.
Need for stimulation/proneness to boredom.
Pathological lying.
Conning/manipulative.
Lack of remorse or guilt.
Shallow affect (i.e., reduced emotional responses)
Callous/lack of empathy.

Most of the pixie dust about mental health comes from companies like Bell Canada and their annual advertising campaign . This year they did their usual campaign and during it they shut down a couple of Radio stations and laid off hundreds. What a joke.

In 2019 , corporate boards were mandated by the Government of Canada to report to shareholders how they keep their employees healthy . Of course it's all BS.

When psychopaths and sociopaths populate the C-suite in most companies, there is no such thing as morals, ethics or empathy.

You don't enter the C-suite or an upper management level without having a sociopathic personality. It is just a fact and studies back it up. Granted, some folks are better than others but at that level there is almost always a trail of bodies that are left behind from these individuals' rise up the food chain. What is even worse are the sycophants and bootlickers who attach themselves to those in power. In some cases they are even more dangerous than the executive. Upper management has never cared about the peon worker bees. No matter what company you work for. Sorry to those who are now without employment today.

Oh trust me they have no shame. We have seen them promote themselves and enrich themselves throughout numerous layoffs. My favourite was when they cut the environment and regulatory team in half a few years ago then split the staff between the existing VP and another newly promoted VP. So in the end two VPs ended up with a quarter of the original headcount underneath them. This has been going on for years. Less working people more management, seems like a recipe for success. I truly thought Alex would be different but as it turns out he’s just the same.

I assure you our VPs and executive have absolutely no shame at all.
