I wasn’t like that when I first started working here but this place indisputably makes everyone a bitter man. Why? Because it provides no satisfaction other than covering the basic material needs - a man earns to be able to pay the bills. And I am more and more bitter, because this company is getting worse and worse.
Now some smart guy will say it’s my fault for staying here, but even if I leave tomorrow, that doesn’t change the fact that Conoco has become a joke of a company that makes employees dissatisfied and bitter people.

So, as a geologist with a BS degree, I am told that I can’t progress past a tech position without an MS. But the head of Global Production has a two year technology degree and our Chief Engineer isn’t an engineer. Yeah, I’m kind of bitter.
Bitter is a choice. COP pays well. Collect a paycheck. Don't expect to like it. It is work after all. Those laid off would happily be bitter and pulling in the pay. Get real and choose not to be bitter
Looking forward to the depressing trudge into the building this morning. Car at 9 mph? Check. Mask? Check. People drinking $4 coffees and brown nosing? Check. Nod to security? Check. Hopeless salespeople in lobby? Check. Temperature ok? Darn, check. Programmed elevator selection to your floor? Check. Head down and least populated route to office scoped? Check. Slip into office remove mask and settle in for another week of wasting your life away....
I’m with you. I left a few years ago after becoming bitter also. It takes a while to get over it but you will. I come here from time to time and see things haven’t changed much. That is sad.
Once again the person who posted this question answered it by pretending to be a different person.
COP...where creativity and passion go to die. It’s all about process process process and identifying the next generation of incompetent “leaders.” If you can, it’s best to make a run for it before you wind up even more miserable and bitter.
If COP is not a good fit for you, move on.

It is the unfairness that makes people bitter. Yes, I know life isn’t fair but no matter what you do or how hard you try at COP, you can’t seem to win. The rules keep changing. Rules are selectively enforced. How many times have you heard, “You can’t be promoted to that level without a specific degree.” Or, “we need you to be fully mobile to progress.” Or, “ you’ve done a great job, but no one really knows you.” Then you see people being promoted who meet none of the criteria.
OP, we’re in the same boat. Thanks for making me aware that I’m not the only person who feels that this company has made them bitter. You are 100% correct, the company IS getting worse.
Everyone seems to walk around with some sort of self importance. When all they really do is create power points and do risk assessments that are picked at until it is not even effective. When I came to work for COP I thought I was coming to the big leagues. If this is what the big leagues is like I’ll go back to the minors. At least there I can make a difference. Where I am not just a number, and the work is fulfilling.
Like you read my thoughts and feelings from the last couple years. I’m still there but what a depressing place it is. Wish I could find something better that provides as well for my family. Still looking.
The pay is not worth it. Move on. Yes, you may take a financial hit, but your soul will be at peace. The inmates took over the asylum. Move on
