Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Some sure of getting cut, some of survival for many more rounds

Honestly, I don’t understand people who are convinced that they won’t survive the next round of layoffs and panic in advance, nor those who are too confident that they will survive not only one more, but also two and three next rounds.
How come some feel so safe and some are sure they are the next target? Is it mere intuition or there are some actual signs that point to it?

1ntx+19THYXD0 You were told by friends it was corrupt but you worked there and didn’t see it until you got cut? That’s is very telling .... perhaps it was your feelings that were hurt and not corruption?

I was told by friends many times that the culture in CVE is very crupted. I didn't believe it until I was let go. The process is definitely not fair, as we saw so many great people were let go and less competent a-kissers survived. I worked hard and had excellent performance. Obviously, this is not working.

I have reached a state of nirvana. I have let go of everything and just don’t care anymore. Let them do their worst. I keep thinking the morale at this company couldn’t go any lower but they keep proving me wrong.

Please make sure you go to the Glassdoor and leave a review of Cenovus to counter all the fake HR posts being put there.

Let’s all let them know we won’t go quietly without having our voices heard. I left my review and it is cathartic to be able to let them know what you think. They read these reviews and on the Glassdoor so they do matter. If 1,000 people posted there they might be embarrassed into acting like caring human beings.

The first few rounds I thought I was done for. I packed up my office every time I left so that I could be consolidated down to one small box in case my number came up. The last time, I was a little too confident and was let go in the first round in January. There is not much thought put into who stays and who goes. It seems the better your personal relationship with your boss, the better your chances of staying. It is certainly not done on merit, performance or knowledge. I was always told that hard work gets recognized and rewarded and I am now left scratching my head trying to figure out where that statement came from because it sure didnt work at Cenovus.

The process is not fair, we know who's protected

Just like in real life, there are the haves and the have-nots. But unlike real life where you have an opportunity to do something about your status if you work hard enough, this is not true at CVE. Hence, the divergence between feeling of impending doom and vast overconfidence.
