Reaching out to current OVM's , MBA's and CSX's... are you hearing anything about being all equals and that our poditions can change at anytime? For example, an MBA and a CSX be switched positions by a whim from their STORE MANAGER( whatever their title is). Or a CSX swithches with an OVM? Is that ridiculous or what??? Does tenure and performance play any role to a person's job. I know many colleagues who have paid their dues to get to where they are at and this just doesn't seem ethical. OH WAIT....I WORK AT MACYS. 🙄

Well I just got off the phone with a crying colleague because she is being forced to go to another store even after saying she is not interested. Store Managers DO NOT make these decisions so keep this in mind when blaming them. I know a few others this has happened to as well. So. It’s happening.
Amazon; mostly 4 day work weeks, (based on your availability, you choose). 10 hour days though, but 40 hour work week. Benefits start on day 1, including PTO and sick pay.
If you aren’t performing in an role that is “ elevated “ we as STMs can change position- either by performance/ coaching conversations, we own the talent in the 4 walls... to answer you question- all leadership positions in the 4 wallls with the exception of obviously STM, Directors and Sr Mgr are equal - of course different positions have different pay ranges but for the most part they aren’t that far off.
If Amazon is in your area, no matter the point you are in your career you owe it to yourself to search and apply. Amazon is hiring in various roles and department store experience seems to be of value.
Respectfully, this is just a sad conversation. The ultimate goal for any retail company/corporation is Customer Service. Executive “equality”? Bonuses? I would like to know what parallel universe you are living in ... some employees are just trying to survive. Really, seriously? You think you’re overworked? Find any retail corporation that is making a profit, submit your resume and see if can even get a phone interview. Best of Luck.
How much bonus does ovs get ? Do they get bonus for cutting people as well ?
So much focus is placed on MBAs knowing profit and loss, controlling budgets/expenses, etc so wouldn't this role also be a very important position to be placed into if becoming a store manager? They all lie so much so who knows. But I was told all the positions are “lateral” and those wishing to go to the next level must spend time in each role. The compensation breakdown the poster shares is very informative! Thanks for sharing as I didn’t know the OVM’s have a different type bonus.
The positions are not equal and cannot be interchanged at anytime. If you have a Store Manager that is telling you that, they are either being untruthful or don't understand the current structure. There are different pay ranges for the OVM/MBA/CX Manager roles, in addition the CX and MBA roles are eligible for quarterly PTG bonus incentives while the OVM has an annual STI (Short Term Incentive) bonus similar to a Store Manager.
Ideally, an executive looking to grow into a STM role will have been at least a CX and then an OVM and if they also did time in the MBA role it would provide additional needed experience and development. If you are being told you have to step into a role you aren't interested in by your STM, open an AskHR case.
Haven’t heard anything like that but I have heard there’s big changes coming in March! Has anybody else heard about restructure within the stores again?
Seniority doesn’t matter. I was laid off after working there 20 years.
Makes sense. One thing you need to understand is Macy’s next move. They give clues. By playing musical chairs with managers could only mean that no one has anything over the other person. It’s also creates a team for once. After a while you will all know the store inside and out. But you know what happens when the music stops ?
Hi, yes, I am a current OVM and worked very hard and many years as a Lead, a Sales Manager and an MTM as well as a brief stint as Operations Manager and THIS IS NOT RIGHT!!! C'mon Macy's...you are messing with people's careers! With many who have given their blood sweat and tears...literally. If this comes to fruition I will definitely have to evaluate my CAREER.
Yes. All positions are equal and lateral moves can be made. Not sure about at anytime but it’s possible. Think about it. What is there to be promoted “up” to now. Next level is store manager. Working in all these positions allows you to learn how an entire store works. I’m an MBA and I have no desire to move up or be in any other position. That’s my fear; will it be forced on me?
Where did you hear this? I'm a current CSX. I feel like we all do everything, which is needed in times like this. I just wish there were more of us. I'm exhausted all the time. Can't sleep because of the fear of getting fired for not making sales in one of my many areas. It's so stressful.
Sounds about right. Twist and turn until you snap and quit. All to save on the farewell package.
