Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Centralizing the registers will bring layoffs?

Someone mentioned that by centralizing the registers they could cause a lot of layoffs for full time associates?

Any thoughts?

I’m excited for this. It’s tiring to listen to customers moan and groan about not finding a register when they don’t want to wait in line. It’ll be a lot easier to keep the floor clean and have the merchandise out faster this way.

Definitely. This has been a long time coming. The writing has been on the wall for years. People just ignore the signs.

Centralized registers bring an end to full time employees and no reason to give raises.

It’s one step above self service. Might as well just order from Amazon..

Winky Dink, comparing to last year practices with one open register on a whole floor and non-existing merchandising, centralized registers concept is a step up. Stores are turned into “ self served “ already, customers accepted it. I agree that Sycko doesn’t understand and I deeply doubt if they even interested in customer satisfaction. At this time biggest challenge is desirable, competitive and profitable product.

Centralized registers will k–l the stores. After expressing the idea to customers, they hate it. They want someone to help them and then help at register in the dept they are in. Centralized registers is not the way to go for a southern born company that has strived on southern hospitality which these sycko people don't understand. There is no personalization to this market they are moving toward and moving out of.
