Thread regarding Belk layoffs

STOCK in COSMETICS? WILL IT EVER HAPPEN?

I work for a popular Lauder owned brand that is only carried in select Belk locations. We are actually a leased area and were just recently moved to an hourly+commission pay structure after being a straight hourly pay structure since our brand entered this store in the 90s. (What a great time to be on commission by the way!)

SO, We have not received hardly any stock for months & we are basically unable to function now because of the lack of stock in our store. I have been promised SO MANY TIMES that we will receive stock sometime in March... but I really don't believe any of it. We are constantly offering save the sale, but I have never once seen ON PAPER that these sales actually go towards our commission since we really don't get audited sales reports right now. I have noticed when I go to do a STS that there are hundreds of our items sitting SOMEWHERE, Belk seems to be fully aware we are completely out of everything in our store but they have plenty of stock somewhere there is a pile of our products sitting waiting to fulfill these sts orders but not for the customers that actually got in their car and came to our store to shop with us. WTF?

Do you think stock is really coming? Are we just being pacified by false promises?

I am loosing it having to tell every customer that they just wasted their valuable time coming to our store because we literally have nothing to sell. I get SO many hurtful comments from customers acting like us not having stock to sell is our fault when we have zero control over anything. It’s affecting me far too much.

I just found out that qvc carries estee lauder now. To the person that wanted to know if you get commission for orders you place in the store . No the store that sends the order gets credit. Commission is going away.

about a year before sears closed stores they started loosing vendors, mostly in tools and automotive. Craftsman and Dewalt both left and that was the first red flag. Then all the major appliances started to disappear. A year later stores started closing by the dozen, some with little to no notice. Then I came to Belk, now it’s dejavu all over again.

Lauder, Clinique, MAC will all be gone by next year (2022) or sooner, they don’t want Belk to tarnish their image, believe me. Dillard’s counters are still operating like normal with full inventory. What does that tell us?

Loreal is not going out of business, BELK is going out of business. Your manager is crazy.

It is not our place to have to continually apologize for Belk failure. They have failed the customer and employee. Our store manager told us that Loreal was going out of business is why we were losing Lacombe and our Loreal fragrance. How can she tell us that? Was anyone else told that? With centralized registers why would they need cosmetics and fragrance. Pick what you need from a locked counter and get someone with key to unlock it for you after it has sit there for weeks to get out for them and carry to a register while the customer wants in line at centralized area of registers ran by part time workers.

Belk corporate big wigs despise name brand items being sold at Belk, they also despise professional sales specialists designated to a specific area (I.e. shoes, Costmetics, handbags etc). they want no name brand, d–g store cheap label cosmetics and fragrance in store because they less they spend on vendors, the more they make in bonus and this is eventually going to happen because we have NO STOCK and NO new promo items. it’s all about them. My last day is next week, I’ve been in cosmetics at Belk since right before Sycamore took over and before that worked at Dillard’s for two years before I moved, and guess what...Dillard’s is WAY better than Belk is now, it’s no comparison. I’ve also witnessed terrible favoritism at Belk, unlike anything I’ve ever seen, some associates are written up for being ten minutes late while others are an hour late and never written up. Our “manager” if you can call her that worked at Wal Mart (and was hired at Belk by her former coworker and next door neighbor (imagine that!!), before Belk and has no knowledge of skin care, beauty regiments, or how to give professional advice to clients. She also seems to be bitter that we are paid more than she is, as she has made this comment several times to employs. Anyone reading this realize that Belk is not Belk anymore, especially in the “beauty and cosmetics” world, it’s falling apart and soon everyone will be gone, or working a totally different job than what they were hired for.

Estee lauder is in presell and the counter is nearly empty. Yes I think it won't be long before it's gone also.

It's a shame that customers will not be able to come in and get professional advice and purchase skin care and cosmetics from the brand of their choice.

Hourly cosmetics associate here. We don't know what stock is arriving until it hits the floor. And here lately it seems we are getting more and more 5 and dime c-ap. We've had stock issues for several months now in the Beauty dept., it has not been limited to just one brand, we (all big brands) experience it......and this started well before Covid hit.
The continued focused push to shift business to online is undeniable in the encouraged 'Concierge' and auto replenishment programs. We have so many loyal customers who like to come in to the store to be social and purchase its makes no sense to me why they would want to shift these store visits through a process that eliminates them coming in to the store altogether missing opportunities to convert their in store replenishment Beauty sales to incremental business for other departments and the Company.
And now that they have made it official that all L'Oreal brands are leaving, sooooo many talking points need to be addressed in a professional manner as to how we front liners handle the questions being raised concerning why so many big names are leaving. It's not just Lancome and Lancome clients aren't just going to switch over to Lauder or Clinique when Lancome leaves. The fragrance footprint alone that L'Oreal owns is going to be very noticeable when gone. Yet Belk is going to be fine and no big deal? I guess we all carry on like business is usual until it all isn't?
While we go through these troublesome times, I keep giving my clients the best service I know how while staying honest and guarded at the same time....and I apologize profusely for what we all are experiencing.
