Any thoughts on how this new layer of middle managers may help improve the bottom line? Another idea from JB on siloing folks under incompetent yes-mam power-seeking young bosses. Reorg is not done yet but damage is.

What. You think Texas is only place with oil. Furthermore do you actually think it takes significant brain power to get a well in the ground?
What exactly does a Pacific coast school bring to the business? I am guessing a brilliant MBA from USC. A&M, UT, and School of Mines is the Ivy League of the oilfield, if you think otherwise, get a well in the ground without us oilfield trash.
Agree with OP, just a way to filter out any non-agreeable viewpoints. It's just a way to maintain control by getting weak managers in the middle so they can deliver what the top guys want to hear and only get the answers to things that trouble the guys on top. Another top-heavy maneuver that forces individual contributors to feed into whatever narrative they want to hear.
How inexperienced are the bosses? Age is not a problem but experience level is. Are they less than 5 years experience with only an undergraduate degree? They may be superstars in the Oxy world because of the lower quartile that Oxy hires. Oxy concentrates too much on the Texas, Louisiana, and Colorado schools. They need to be going after pacific coast and big10 schools for talent. Much better choice. Also, unfortunately they have hired from Alabama in the past and that is why we are in trouble.
Why don't you focus on becoming a better leader, and take advantage of those opportunities instead? People would be complaining about the lack of opportunities within the company if the opposite would be happening smh.
