Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Position change

Has anyone at another store had the flex positions eliminated and the associates occupying those positions moved into part time ones? That happened at my store, and as a flex worker, I naturally had a second main job. Well now I've been told by the OVM to either make Macy's my main job as a part timer or get out. Absolutely ridiculous to change a position without giving notice, I was hired as flex and now I have to change that. No way

To the OP...8825 Receiving is now referred to as BOH ((Back of House)). All the rest of 8030 is referred to as FOH (Front of House). You need to fight this.

Again, people do not matter and this is another proof. They need a good course if training to turn this ship around. Firing, laying off, replacing people will not make a difference. Investing in quality training and people skills will. All the best.

To clarify, I was in 8825 Receiving Process. I don't know if that is still a coding but if that can help with some of the responses

Your store messed this up big time.
You are in 8030, right?
We added several PT in BOH and gave anyone who was interested in going PT the chance. One took the PT job, voluntarily. The rest who weren't interested are staying in their existing flex jobs.

Same for FOH, we added one PT, no one wanted it so we hired a former seasonal to go in it who did want it. The rest who weren't interested are staying in their existing flex jobs.

There was NO direction to force out anyone who didnt want to take a PT job.
If people quit their flex jobs, they aren't replaced, which is fine. But if you are being forced, you need to complain.

This does not sound right at all. They should have had a conversation with you before moving you, knowing you already had another job. I would request to speak to the store manager if your OVM is not willing to work with you around your other job. My OVM’s are very understanding and work with our colleagues who have other jobs as far as scheduling goes. They make it work. When we lost our flex receiving team year before last, they had conversations and offered them part time. If you don’t get any cooperation at the store level and you want to keep this extra job, then contact In Store Solutions. Good luck

Take the spring and summer off and go back to Macy's as a seasonal in Oct. You'll be flex again.

This has not happened yet. But if that is the choice, I guess I am out. Not going to leave my full time job with benefits, health benefits etc. for that place.
