Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

What is it like being a claims adjuster?

I am so thinking of applying to Allstate as a claims adjuster. I see the salary is $51,000. Would you recommend or not recommend and why?

Have you ever seen fire walkers? If you can handle that for a couple years to get the experience for your resume, then do it and move on to better things. I still remember almost crying on my first day of being a claims adjuster when I got yelled at by an attorney's who id–t kid opened their door into our insured's parking vehicle. I hadn't had time to grow a thick skin with enough experience to put him in his place and explain that he was at fault because he failed to control his passenger in his vehicle. AND that was when I was working for a very supportive Allstate that cared about my growth and me as a person. Imagine starting out with management constantly brow beating you everyday. Good luck.

Do it for the experience and get out after 1-2 yearsalthough those 1-2 years will traumatize you to the point you may possibly quit

Great job if you can get in at Liberty, Progressive, Cincinnati, etc.
We pay substantially less and expect so much more out of our folks.

I make more than that currently, and it's certainly not worth it.

I frequently end up logging on around ~7AM, and sometimes work until 10 or 11PM, not including what I work over the weekends.

You'll be micromanaged to death, and blamed when you fail to meet their unrealistic explanations.
