Thread regarding Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. layoffs

Eight months since I was let go

It's been eight months since this company decided to show me the f—ing door after fifteen years of exemplary performance. And for what? Not because there was no need for my position but because they wanted to replace me with somebody cheaper. They used the pandemic as a perfect excuse. It's been eight months and this still makes me sick!

It's now been a year, and I had over 10 years in. The leadership there is mixed - I always really liked working with LH, but some of the other SVP, VP, and Director levels were astonishingly bad. Bad at their jobs, bad human beings. I was angry for a few months, but my new role has better benefits, a much higher pay grade, and much kinder leaders at all levels. I miss my team, but so many of them are gone now as well - many left after seeing how a company would use layoffs in a pandemic to their advantage, among other terrible practices. I wouldn't want to go back.

Same here, I had 12 under my belt. I refuse to shop there any longer.

They might have wanted to replace you with somebody of a particular gender.

Unfortunately what happened to you is an example of the future of retail. Minimum wage part time unskilled labor employees with open availability and lots of turnover. What used to be professional and respected full time employment is now task oriented unskilled labor. It's happening every day. Happened to me too.
