Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

What are your plans?

I know there are some who plan to leave the company before the bottom falls out. Some of us are saving, taking online classes to pick up new skills, applying to other places in and out of retail while hoping the rug won’t be pulled out from under us. When (not if) I find other employment I will take 2 weeks off before starting a new career. What is everyone else planning to do?

@1alr+19C8kuLo yup my coworker expressed her covid concerns to our head of ast and she just said covid isn't really that big of a deal anymore and that we shouldn't be worried

Heard about the post regarding the visit in Denver from a co-worker, didn't even know about this site. They visited stores all week long with a big group from Chicago. Who travels and visits stores during a pandemic in a large group? I heard the regional wasn't feeling well and called out sick on Monday but still visited stores with her team for the rest of the week. Doesn't look like anyone's too concerned the health of the people in stores. Stay safe everyone.

Can very much relate There is no concept of what it feels like to run a minimum staff especially on a Sunday! Moving on after almost 3 decades. The best choice was to earn two degrees. It took major sacrifice, dedication, and sheer guts, but worth every bit of it. I highly recommend furthering education and add it to experience. All the best to everyone. Go where you feel appreciated, valued, and is treated like a human should be.

I took a short course by a local Dallas attorney.
I'm going to be a 'slip and fall' artist, perhaps at Macy's on occasion.

So I work in Denver and our store had the new regional boss lady drop by on Sunday with no notice. We run on a shoe string budget and had a few callouts so our store wasn't looking as good as normal and she told our manager that we looked bad and our store manager was complaining about the visit and said that another store manager quit because of it this week.

Our store has been waiting for the final closing announcement for two years now and still no final answer, just everyone with less than 10 years who was worth a darn having quit to find a job somewhere else. The good news is that you can still find a job in the area and get paid more in most cases, those of us who have been here awhile just waiting for the severance package before we retire or move on.

We used to have district team that was pretty friendly and would come in and help stores, but the new people in charge seem to be kinda heartless and everyone seems afraid of them. Plan on moving on soon but not before they close our store and I get paid.

Check customer service job opportunities in your local or nearby municipalities. Your job experience interacting and servicing clients is valuable to those openings. And for part timers, there are always listings in park and recreation; I.e., greeting clients, signing up children for youth leagues, etc..
