Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Every man/woman for themselves

I've never worked at a company where that saying was more true than here. Stabbing people in the back just to get ahead is a common occurance and I've seen it happen over and over again in my three years here. Taking credit for somebody else's work (management does this all the time) is also normal. Can somebody please explain to me how is this helping the company?

Back stabbing my get a few ahead in the short term but those will get eventually stuck in corporate ladder as the word goes around as them being backstabber. Oxy, APC folks usually are the sheep's and easy going folks. They are mixed with bad wolfs from XOM and APA dying for nee or keeping themselves in power.

You are right on. They should have had layoffs to weed out all of the useless positions and people. VH has no idea what she is doing.

I’ve found Oxy to be way less cutthroat/backstabby than the major where I previously worked. My theory is it’s because Oxy hasn’t had real layoffs.

Welcome to corporate amerika. You must learn to play the game, but with honor. It's part of the art of war. Yes, it's hard to win when others play dirty, but it can be done (might be some setbacks along the way). You must be shrewd in your dealings with others. In fact, it's a biblical guidance to do so. Watch out for the wolf in sheep's clothing. It's a lesson I learned the hard way, been straight up burned hardcore by a "friend" at work. I agree with the others, trust people at first, but at the same time, realize they (yes, your coworkers) are your competition. Not always a fun or easy maze to navigate, but it can be done, and you'll feel better in the long run when you do it with honor and integrity.

I just wish managers were more willing to see through stuff like this.

Agree, “ trust these people as the default until they show you they can’t be trusted”
It does not necessarily have to happen to you. If these people do it to others, they will do it to you one day.

You must be very inexperienced. This is human nature and some people just behave like this. Just rise above it and watch out for these people who put themselves above you. Trust these people as the default until they show you they can’t be trusted.
