Although I was aware that Cenovus was laying off people without any meaningful order, I still secretly hoped to survive at least one more round. Unfortunately, it won't happen.
I think the layoff is a big shock even for those who have no expectations at all. Everyone told me not to take it too personally, but it was no consolation to me. It was even harder for me when I realized that we were just numbers in this machine.

Value and Asset is the people working for the company. No People, No company.
I'm not valued... I'm a well educated mid 30s caucasian male... I've been told I'm what's wrong with the world for long enough. Unfortunately I didn't load up with an unreasonable amount of debt so I get to do a year long lockdown in a 1 bedroom! F– yah, its 2021 life is fukin great, hand off your problems to the next person
The only person that truly makes money is the one that is selling the tee shirts that says “I survive layoff round number ?”
I am truly happy that I am retired and missing all this fun.
Keep your head up high, you are not a number - you are a person who probably had alot of positive attributes and integrity that was provided to the organization or you would not have been hired in the first place.
Although organizations do go by numbers for stock holders, the board and business survival... its a business - numbers are in fact the game unfortunately for all of us. Long gone are the old days when employers were a bit different in their strategic philosophies ( in same ways , not all). But never beat yourself up because of how companies run themselves - you are valued, to YOU.
What I see as the worst thing in all of this is that we continue to hear on and on and on that further cuts are coming - we know this already!! This continual reminder (emails, The Bridge, town halls etc...) is completely unnecessary in my strong opinion and NOT healthy for any of those still there. We only need to hear about it once or twice, NOT every bloody week.
Anyways, sorry to hear your feeling down and unwanted in the work force, but....if you got hired once, it will happen again because you are STILL valued !
