Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

A big negative that turned out to be a positive

Worked as a locomotive electrician for a few years in chicago, can honestly say this is the worst company I ever worked for. I’m grateful though, I learned some good troubleshooting skills which in turn lead to my next job as an Electro mechanic at Ardagh group. Ironically it’s the best company I’ve ever worked . So I’m thankful for NS and grateful that I don’t work there anymore. Good luck to all the folks there on the butcher block

If the railroad taught you stuff to work somewhere else that’s scary.

Another thing to consider is for how long will the current benefits and pay stay competitive? I’m sure it’s gradually going to reduce. Look at the trend of the last couple contacts.

It's hard to stay anonymous when you say where you go. The railroad is not the only job out there. Just hard to leave with 15+ years and can't retire at 60 hardly anywhere else when you are over 30

At least the OP told us where he went after NS. Better than all the mysterious posts about "how I went somewhere else and make $100k" without actually saying where or even what job they got
