Any update on how Q4 earnings effect store closures ?

Has anyone seen these supposed floor moves?

A agree with the poster below. The Christiana store in Delaware, might as well be a Macy’s it’s product is closed to a Macy’s then a normal Nordstrom.

The only issue to my knowledge is the Christiana store is relatively new. However.. Nordstrom opened the San Juan store in 2015, spend a good deal of money repairing it due to a hurricane in 2017. Then closed it in 2020, so anything is possible.

The Christiana store in Delaware is pathetic. Sad inventory and a lot of theft. Every year we thought that it would close. This store should be at the top of the list.

What do you think the chances of Nordstrom closing 20 stores, instead of 12 are? I think it would be smarter to take the hit now and try to future proof the company from any large closing list in the following years.

If they took this approach and needed/wanted to continue to right side Nordstrom, they would be fine with a small list. 5 stores a year to get to 60 from 80 in a few years esc. The media & folks hardly talk about 5 stores closing, unlike the list of 16 last year and the list of 12-20 this year. See 2019 when Nordstrom closing 7 stores. It’s hard to find a news article about it. Another bonus about taking the 20 store hit this year, is you can blame it on covid. (this is probably the last year for that)

Beyond the Boston stores. As far as the north Eastern stores.

Westfarms in CT is probably a lock to close as well. They were originally on the list of 16 last year.

Westchester in NY is another store they could close. 35 mins from much better stores & malls. Paramus to the west, Sono collection to the east. Westchester has had major shrinkage (theft) problems for a while and dropped something like 7M last year. However I do believe there in a long lease.

No way that North Shore DOESNT close. One of the worst performing branches in the entire fleet. South Shore doesn’t do great either, but not as bad as North Shore.

Will they abandoned any markets altogether, those with one store?

Are they still planning to combined the Men’s store?

For the life of me, they better close some stores in the Boston area. I understand there relatively new, however 4 stores is a ton for the size of the market. They should, at a bare minimum ditch south shore... if not north shore as well.

I find it hard to believe, there going to keep the secret until April, if that’s the case. No Trucks being delivered to stores is a big red flag. During the covid lockdown my store was one of 16 to close. A week or two earliest we stopped getting trucks. We basically all knew at that point, and the muli-store video call invite only confirmed it. (Nordstrom’s Friends on fb, even had a running list that was pretty accurate before the list became “official”)

Floor moves - With product literally not being bought anymore for some stores, the moves are meant to not make floors look like dance floors. Also combined floors are easier for combining/consolidation of dms to take place.

Which stores will close - This will be based on rental agreement with malls, volume output, and there definitely will be closures in markets with multiple stores in close proximity.

Timeframe - March - Early April. There are a lot of moving parts also employees have been complaining about the lack of job security and simply being tired of being used up and thrown away when it gets too costly. This latest move is a clear message that the company is giving up on full line and it will not go over well with the Nordstrom diehards, whom they tried to weed out as many as possible with the first round of layoffs. Simply stated, damage control.
