why do we strive to emulate a dump like Walmart? Financially successful?...yes they are. Great company?...a hard no. And yet we put them on a pedestal as a gold standard retailer so what should we expect but exactly what we are being given.

Costco: $16/HR
Target, Best Buy, Amazon, Kay Jewelers: $15/HR
Walmart: $12 minimum. Most 14-15/HR.

Hearing Home Depot could be next.

  • eventually most will be forced to raise their wages or lose employees to other retail sources. But some cannot SURVIVE if they are forced to. So the next few years should be fun for retail as job titles become mute and many FT are laid off. Have fun!!

I think the comparison of Lowe's to Walmart is completely appropriate considering what has happen at the store level since our new CEO took over. Both Best Buy and Costco in my area are already at $15/hr. Costco full-time staff with 2 pay increases per year and from what I have read up to $4000 in bonuses per year. Lowes employment at the store level is rapidly going down hill and is nothing to brag about.

Costco, which operates 558 stores in the U.S, is lifting its starting pay to $16 an hour from $15 —putting it just above Amazon’s $15 minimum and well ahead of Walmart’s $11. Walmart in the fall increased minimum wages to $15 in its stores’ bakery and deli departments.

They are not raising all their wages—they are raising their AVERAGE wage. Big difference. Also, as others have said, they also are slashing hours just like Lowe’s and practically every other retailer is.

Walmart wages have always been lower than most retailers. Lowe’s pays more than Walmart so why would we they increase our pay. I wish they would

Marvin's all for the reducing hours part. As for the raising wage aspect, no so much.

When Walmart raises the pay level they traditionally reduce hours. My friend works at Walmart.
