I've noticed that layoffs seem to be focusing on people who've been here for a while rather than those who are more recent additions. Is this true? Does that mean that I'm safe if I've only been here for little over a year? I know this is probably wishful thinking on my part but I have to ask.

I voluntarily retired in 2015 & can’t believe how much worse things must be there now in 2021. It will say after working at multi smaller cos 2016-2021 the 30 yrs at COP I now refer to as my cupcake years! Plan on working ur butt off at the smaller cos if hired
Any co hiring now plan on stepping into a sh.t show. FYI only.
Troll post - nobody knows yet who is being let go or who submitted an EoI.
The cuts this time are going to be biblical. If you’re in Exploration, you’re already dead.
Everyone is at risk. No one is safe. Unless your initials are RL.
Demotions = pay cuts and that’s a real possibility. Less supervisors means some will become individual contributors at a lower SGL. What are your options in this market?
What a place. Too fat for too long. I was at Surmont for 5 years and the waste of money on some S1 guys. Big boys club no more. Bag licking is over
There haven't been any layoffs YET. So how could you say that the 'layoffs seem to be focusing on people who've been here for a while rather than those who are more recent additions' I smell someone fishing!
Regarding layoffs, there are only two factors: blind loyalty, and a “sponsor”. If someone successful up the chain is covering for you, you are safe.
The previous post requires a clarification...
Stay: 0% paycut
Go: 100% paycut
Some are taking pay cuts as well to be able to stay!
Less years in service means less payout when they let you go. Experience is important if they want to keep the company above water. This round, being a junior employee is probably no guarantee of safety.
Unfortunately, I don’t think we can say we are safe. No matter if you have been 1-10 or 20
Years with the company.
It is okey to be stress, we will know and feel better in a month. Hang in there
For every older person they layoff, they have to layoff a younger person so that the average age is below a threshold or the EEOC will be knocking at the door for age discrimination. Everyone below SGL 20 is at risk. It is more of a factor of what skill set is needed to fill a position. When given the choice between two equal candidates, the will pick the one that makes less money. They have laid off new hires in the past, but the less money you make, the safer you are. IMHO.
