I have no idea what this is all about. In the six years I’ve been working here I’ve almost never received any criticism for my work, maybe just a few times. Everything was always great. I always tried to do my job conscientiously.
Lately however, I’ve been constantly the target of criticism, and I don’t think I’m doing my work any differently or worse than before. It not only demoralizes me, but worries me a lot. I take this as a signal that soon I may not be needed in this company.

I wouldn’t crush my managers and I got my first warning. This after multiple MAGIC 6 awards. When your toast, you’re toast. I didn’t stick around because I knew what was coming. It wasn’t worth the fight as there would always be something that wasn’t done. Life goes on.
Macy’s culture is horrible. I’ve heard so much smack spoken about people and then see them praise the same people and promote them. Then when someone else comes on the team and sees all the bs of praised/promoted person and questions it, then all of a sudden everyone is saying such and such has always been a problem. Seen it over and over again at all locations I’ve been to. If it is not that, then it’s the person like myself who refuses to drink the koolaid and play along. I get criticism for bs (I’m not socializing...oops, engaging. Not kissing rear ends) however I am in fact very good at what I do and o help get results. They can’t ding me on performance so I get penalized because I drink my own water! LOL. Just be careful and document because these people are horrible! I am salaried so I know!!
Document and date those conversations. Repeat back exactly what you heard the criticism was in order to check for understanding. Then ask exactly what you can do to improve and ask for feedback whenever you see the criticizer and document that follow-up. Its as simple as pulling out your smart phone and going to calendar to put in the documentation. That way you won't forget. You can tell your criticizer that is what you are doing so they know you are serious about improving your actionable behaviors. Brief factual note without emotions.
Macy’s has always been a place to scapegoat, and now it’s morphed into hunger games.
Your superior is afraid of getting replaced. With all the closings there might be job insecurity. So what happens, you become the scapegoat. Don't let it happen...the stress is just too much. Lived it as a perfect employee and was thrown to the wolves by the same person I sacrificed my well being for. Sun, rain, whatever the weather I was at work. No ethics, integrity, or class. No wonder the entire thing is imploding. They forget the most important thing and what matters...PEOPLE
BE WELL!
Yup, someone is being pressured from the top and they're taking it out on you. Not only is it wrong but so unprofessional. Sadly, that's how they operate. So many people on here can attest to that.
Unfortunately, if people don't come to the company with ethics, class, and plain people skills, it won't be taught there.
Stand up and let them know you won't take it. They will be afraid to mess with you. Document, document, document everything.
Don't let what happened to so many happen to you. It's not your fault they are failing!
macys is a dirty company ran by lowlifes losers.. one min they your" friend " next they throw you under a bus... my take is you gotta look how much you are making vs the newest s—er in the ranks.
if the wage goes to 15 dollars all across usa then they prolly wanna cut you being that they will only need one person per floor or two max.. 15 a hr will bankrupt macys
Yeah it's usually just the trickle down effect one boss gets chewed out so they take it out on whoevers below them
Stand strong in knowing you're a good worker, don't let them intimidate/bully you. Maybe even call them out? Pull them aside and tell them you've noticed a shift, ask them what's going on.
Sadly, I agree with poster ZTW+197p4zej. I worked for the company over 15 years and was continuously promoted and praised. Then one insecure people leader did not like me and made it a point to embarrass me and humiliate me and put me down and give bad reviews based on nothing. He managed to get the store manager on his side and I correctly predicted the writing on the wall. That seems to be the Macys way. It has nothing to do with your performance at all. They don’t like you for some reason and it doesn’t even have to be anything that is relevant at all. Start documenting if you haven’t already.
I guess it depends on who's doing it. I wouldn't necessarily jump to the conclusion that they're getting your walking papers ready. I'm an AST and I see so much stuff going on and often it's pressure from someone above the store to improve something and they just take it out on someone. It always passes. I'm in a toxic place and these phases come and go. But what position are you in exactly? Because that could change the calculus.
Your intuition is probably spot on. This is the time where all the managers gather their documentation and tally up your work productivity and how many coachings you were subtly given without even being aware there was a problem. Believe me,It happened to me. I would start documenting things yourself to have a case ready in case ready in case it comes to that. I have never seen anything so shady in all my years of retail.
