Hearing rumors about buyouts for certain NS workers ??

It’s absolutely true. There were 182 applied and
Roughly 150 were bought out at 100k each effective 12/31/2020. BRS represented employees who were working during PTC were included in the feb 7 job stabilization agreement in which if furloughed you will receive your 40
Hr straight time pay until you go back. That is indefinitely, until you go back or retire. Making the cuts they needed with PSR, there were quite a bit guys who were receiving feb 7 benefits just sitting at the house. They bit the bullet and tried to get rid of what they could, because had the majority stayed on feb 7 they would have had to spend 100k plus in wages in benefits. They would save in the long run, rather than keep paying guys sitting at the house.
If that’s true, this is the first instance I’ve ever heard of the company following a contract.
From what I heard the signal dept contract contained furlough protection clauses in which a signalman who was furloughed would continue to receive a large portion of this pay. So a buyout represented to cost savings to NS, after the initial upfront money paid for the buyout. The rest of us, especially in mechanical, shouldn't expect a buyout unless we have something very valuable the company wanted.
As odd as it sounds they did it $100k but they had limitations as to who would qualify....contract employees
Yes the Signal Department was offered.....i was told by a maintainer 182 signed up for it and they bought out 101...........as the other poster said 100k each.
Fake news. No way would they pay someone to leave when a layoff is free.
Buyouts are happening in the signal department. 100k to walk away. Good retirement gift for the guys who could leave anyway.
Unions already bought out
never going to happen. they can just lay off and won’t cost them anything. maybe the non-agreement people in offices will get a little something to walk but nobody in rank and file.
What would the company gain?
That rumors been out for the last 10 years, wish in one hand and..... well you know the rest. Will not happen
Hearing conductors without engineer seniority will get bought out.
There's nobody left to buyout. In order to get a buyout you'd have to have something they want.
