I think my favorite one involves the Isnooze.
The case study states that the Isnooze drilled the curve in record time for a customer in South America. What it fails to mention is that when they get horizontal that the tool couldn't measure the azimuth. Had to pull out of the hole and pick up a mudmotor to reach TD. Typical HAL, telling only half the story.

My favorite story is hearing that Isnooze is the highest priority for the success of drilling market, then walking through manufacturing and seeing every technician on their smart phones surfing away.
It was so bad that they set up strobe lights at their stations to signal that they did not know what to do next. They would activate the strobe and the 'expert' would come by if he was present and help.
I remember an Elite pumptruck going down prior to starting a cement job. A Replacement pumptruck arrived 4 hours later out of Victoria,TX with no downhole densometer or iron coming off the back of HT-400s. Company man almost strangled the little Mexican driver from Fresno.

I remember picking up a backup tool, the only one I had and it not working. Come to find out, the shop was short on boards and guess who the lucky guy was that got a tool with no electronics.
I remember a post on Linkedin about a pdc bit and motor combination. The thing is, the PDC cutters were oriented to where the bit would have to rotate counter-clockwise to make any hole. A guy from Weatherford no less pointed this out...Doh!
