@1jix+18tEeTVU This is true of every company. Building relationships with higher ups can help. This is what makes the whole servant leadership thing so special. The last will be first and the first last. It’s not human nature to be that way in ourselves.

There is an enormous difference between exploration management and exploration staff. So many of the successes of other companies were identified first by COP exploration staff in BUs, GOM and New Ventures and recommended to senior management, all the way to the top - only to be routinely turned down and left for others to succeed. Conoco leadership distrusts its own technical staff and thinks it is smarter than everyone else - and look where that has landed the company. We have gone from a genuinely international integrated company to an inward looking L48 dominated 'E' and P, with a few other remnant BUs who must surely see their remaining time is limited. Happy Holidays.

When I reflect upon the contributions of Exploration to the value of this company, I'm reminded of a quote from Winston Churchill- "Success is going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm."

Here’s the facts:

(1) The leadership forum (SGL 21 and above) who want to retire will be given special 3-year enhanced severance packages.

(2) Other managers (18 and above) who want to retire will be given 60 weeks, and/or flexibility on when to retire so that the tax impact is minimized. Managers who want to stay will be kept (because they’ve already been vetted as “special” or they would not be managers.

(3) The Concho folks will be savaged. It’s what we do.

(4) On a scale of 1-10, the Exploration cuts will be a 14. I use the word “cuts” in a dictionary torture way. The company has finally realized how corrupt and incompetent this discipline is, and put all the roulette money on “unconventionals”.

(5) The ELT will also be shaken up in May with “retirements”, which will really be 3-year enhanced severances to those ready to retire, after receiving sky-high rewards for guiding the company through 2020.

I'm so pleased to hear the FDA formally approved a second vaccine today.
