Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Job opening

How stable is The Woodlands office location? Im iterested in a Job opening (Technical Security Coordinator) but hesitant to apply due to layoffs in the industry.

OP: never be hesitant to apply. Ask questions like this after you have an offer in hand.

If the employees like the office then they must change that by moving people to Greenway and shutting the Woodlands office down. They can always take back any agreements they have with the county or city.

Agree with Don, that building was built with oil money no expense spared. I feel safe in the Woodlands, very nice place to live.

I think The Don may be the one that's a bit unstable.

The Woodlands office location is very stable. The area is not earthquake prone, a competent structural engineering company designed the building, and it is well built. I have no concerns about the building collapsing. It’s high quality; Extremely high quality and built in the USA. Much better construction than the old Timberloch building. It clearly was built poorly in unstable ground to collapse like that.

OP.
It is too bad you are not joining the old Oxy. That would be a worthwhile move. This new company is questionable.

What the hell is Oxy doing hiring people from outside the company? This is a serious question.
First they lure people with the VSP and pay a lot of money for this. Then they lay-off people last January. The woodlands office should have been closed down by this time. What a chump decision this was to maintain two offices. With enough layoffs and spinoff of GOM or Anadarko’s trash they could all fit into Greenway plaza.
Question for anyone. If oil prices go to 60 dollars per barrel are we better off then before the Anadarko acquisition? The answer to this look back question should direct what happens to current management responsible for the acquisition.

I would ignore any advice you get from this thread. Any and all. Probably better to ask your local bartender. With that disclaimer, I believe you'll have a stable job for at least 10 years given the current real estate situation, and obviously depending on your skillset and value to the company.
