Macy’s continues to say that they are for the safety of our colleagues and customers. Truth is, their actions speak differently. The face masks they provide with the star are NOT approved by the FDA so you are still at risk if you wear them. Our store has had 2 Covid alerts come up in the last week with no extra added precautions or cleaning...COINCIDENCE?!?

Don't blame Macy's the only mask that possibly works is medical grade (aka n95). Everything else can't filter virus particles. Mask mandates are just political theater and are bad policy because they give people a false sense of security.
To the poster who gave accolades to Macy's for their covid response: Perhaps the store you work in is the exception, and for your sake I hope you stay safe, but where I work, there is a big disconnect between the stated company "safety guidelines" and what actually transpires on the selling floor and back of house. It's all for show. It's a dangerous situation coupled with a surprising degree of ignorance about the virus and how it is transmitted.
I am shocked, especially 9-months into this pandemic, that so many people are not taking the necessary steps to keep themselves safe at work. Why should any of us feel compelled to help a customer who does not have a mask on that covers both their mouth AND NOSE? Walk away. Simply walk away.
Eat in the employee lounge? Our lunchroom has no ventilation. Seriously. Every day I put my coat on and eat in my car.
Many of these same people, who I care about and are otherwise nice to work with, talk about these big family get-togethers they are planning for the holidays. So, then what? I can deal with the impossible work load that we are all struggling with, but I can't handle the stupidity.
My store has plenty of back stock in key areas and still not permitted to merchandise in walkways or an apex.
“updates to merchandising guidelines to maintain social distancing“
Ummm no it’s due to not having merchandise LOL!!!
I doubt they would be doing this if they had product to fill the stores.
While I am not the biggest fan of Macy’s, being screwed over & taken advantage of many times, I have to give them accolades for the investment they are making into safety. Abundant PPE, extensive sanitation payroll positions, updates to merchandising guidelines to maintain social distancing, occupancy action planning, etc. not all companies are treating Covid like this. I’ve heard horror stories from external fellow retail workers that make me appreciate what Macy’s is doing for their staff.
Do not blame the company, blame the direct leadership. If you feel there is an opportunity speak up and take action.
It all depends on your store managememt.
If you dont trust the mask provided by the store, wear an approved mask under it.
Don't want to say what store but our store was never clean because the cleaning company spent their time on their phones hiding in supply room or were on break! The fitting rooms are open and colleagues have to clean them out, how safe is that? Shields only protecting register not a barrier between us and the customers. Don't get me started on the bathrooms, plain disgusting! The soap is watered down, cold not hot water and never smells clean. Colleagues had to clean their stations and dust fixtures etc. and probably even more so now. Employees exposed by visiting VIP! Shame on JG because if he's now aware, he should be. The buck stops there!
Let's get realistic here—Macy's cannot protect you!
Customers come in with masks, but no gloves and riffle through the clothes. We put it back together, and the cycle restarts. COVID and other germs are attached to the soft goods. There's no way that keeping merchandise in quarantine for a day will take care of this problem.
You have to protect yourself and wear gloves. I'd also suggest to go easy on the heavily scented disinfectant at the registers. They can irritate your sinuses in the dry stores and make it more likely you'll get an upper respiratory.
