Digital sales not helping

Why doesn’t it surprise me that Macy’s found itself on the list of five American companies that fared worst in the pandemic? This is especially interesting to me:

Digital sales “penetrated” at 38% of comparable store sales, which means physical store sales must have been dismal. While that number seems strong, it’s not nearly enough to cover Macy’s retreat. Macy’s needs to win online, given the level of competition it faces in both e-commerce and brick-and-mortar retail. It has done neither.

I wonder if they have a vision with digital sales at all, it is obvious that improvements need to be made there?

No surprise at all being one of the five worst run companies. It seems like they make the list every year since I’ve been involved with them. Online sales only go so far. Some of these slower store locations should convert to Small Fulfillment centers and Returns locations like Dover DE or convert to a Backstage only like West Orange NJ. People are looking for discounts and relief after this horrible year. You have to make your web site well enough so that customers have the easiest time possible ordering what they want. Not just Macy’s I’ve seen other retailers as bad.

My wife tried ordering online form Macy's. What a joke. Almost everything she wanted was out of stock or broken sizes.
