Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Wrongfully Terminated

I was fired in February in response to my co-worker going to my district manager and telling her every “inappropriate” thing I have basically done since I started the job. This co-worker hated me and was jealous of everything I have going for me. Having one bad co-worker is one thing, but our DM was a complete id–t and inept to do her job. She brought me in to talk and was immediately accusatory, did not ask me for my side of the story and basically screamed at me when I would not agree to certain things that she asked me about the actions that I was accused of. I got in trouble for things that I said and did over 3 months before I was fired and she twisted my words around to fit her narrative. I cannot wait for the day until Barnes and Noble goes out of business.

Again, thank you so much to everyone who supported me. It means a lot! This girl is absolutely psychotic. After she was laid off in August I confronted her via Facebook messenger. (She had unfriended me just a couple months before she got me fired.) I thought it was only fair for her to know that I’m not an id–t and knew exactly who started all of this.... She immediately blocked me and since then I have lost two co-workers as friends on Facebook, probably because she showed them my message. And you’re telling me that she doesn’t have any power over my co-workers, managers to manipulate them and get exactly what she wants? You’re talking about someone who is sick and mentally ill for what she did.

It was really rotten of her to go straight to the DM. She was definitely looking to get even for whatever reason. We've had the most vindictive, evil women in the company at our store so I know what you mean. And they get rewarded for it! It comes from the top and our now regional manager should have been fired years ago!

Saying inappropriate things on multiple occasions.

What do you expect?

This is 2020.
We all know, regardless of anyone’s brand of humor, what you can and can’t say.

And I don’t think she was jealous of you.
I think you made people uncomfortable, and there were most likely more than one complaint:

Thank you to everyone who supported me! It means a lot. I was fired in February, literally 5 weeks before COVID hit the NJ/NY area. I was friends with this co-worker for over 2 1/2 years. She was a head cashier and I was the primarily cashier for our store. I was literally at cashwrap for 7 hours EVERY shift. I got memberships, gave B&N my all. After the 1800 lay-offs in 2018, my store decided to keep this one head cashier because we had just lost our last two head cashiers a few months before the layoffs happened. She stayed in the position for about a year when corporate decided they had to nix the head cashier position all together, she then moved to full time customer service, staying completely silent about what had happened and about loosing her position because she still wanted to boss me around and assert power over me even though it wasn’t her job anymore. I called her out over it. I would stick up for myself when she would bully me and she just couldn’t take the disrespect.... she was a 43 y/o head cashier with not much going in her life. She was definitely envious of my potential and the fact that I am law school bound. We were friends for a while and relatively close. I have a pretty wild sense of humor. I make inappropriate jokes all the time, and always did since day one. I enjoyed making my co-workers laugh and it just always got me through my shift with a little sanity. So, she went to my district manager and basically told her everything I ever said. My DM even accused me of making comments to a co-worker who left the company in November and mind you this is February! My DM NEVER got my store manager involved, in fact he disagreed with my termination. The biggest irony of it all is that this co-worker was never asked to come back after this summer and was let go. I wish you all the best, get out now, you all deserve better in life.

Yeah, you should get a "real" adult or some neutral person to help you think/work through this situation. You're too close to it, and frankly, much of what you say is your opinion. Hell, I'm not even sure what exactly you're going on about other than the fact that you were fired and are clearly upset about it. Or is that you are mad at a co-worker whom you claim didn't like you? Yeah, go talk to a real adult. And make sure they are smart too.

Lots of questions here. What were the things you were accused of doing? Did it involve money or cheating the company at all?

How long have you been with the company? Did you have a witness with you during the accusations? NOTE TO ALL: ALWAYS HAVE SOMEONE THERE TO HEAR EVERYTHING and KEEP NOTES
THEN, GET A LAWYER!

Lastly, did her name sound like tie bow?

Not a Team Player, obviously.

Whose fault is this, really?
