I have nothing against people using a calculator. However, and someone else has noticed this as well, if a person in a higher position cannot calculate a percentage of some small amount without using a calculator, I think that is not a good sign. I mean what kind of example does that give? That it is possible to advance without much knowledge and that this company has a poor selection of staff. Do you agree or did I overdo it?

We had an STM at West Town who didn’t even have her GED. Like wtf
Im not a manager, but from a personal standpoint, I get flustered when people ask me mathematical questions. it's not that I can't figure it out in my head. I just get nervous.
And, what’s your point OP? Are you applying for management role? Do you really want to be responsible for your success as well as all other upcoming candidates?
Yes, you are correct! Obviously I got caught up in the message! No matter, it’s ability to do math calculations🤦♀️ Try again; MSRP $100; 40% off retail. (4x10) -100= $60. Thank you for your correction!
Uh, the 40% off from $100 = $60. The person who posted above may be slightly less competent than he/she believes. Maybe show some respect to your elders.
OP, likely you are of older generation. Certainly not a bad thing as I’m sure you are “savvy and worldly.” Technology has driven education since 2006! My son’s dual magnet acclaimed school; IB and foreign language, (Spanish daily), didn’t even teach cursive writing. And, every national test since 3rd grade, some were “calculator assist.” But, both my boys can run run circles around me on technology. It’s really not hard to calculate 40% off retail. Your manager has to navigate a lot more than; MSRP $100=(6x4); (24) less $100. $76!
If you can do the the math and give better than best customer service, just oblige😊
I never understood purpose of that pyramid. I’m talking about those well paid district managers, regional managers, with distractive visits and endless demands for pointless projects and moves, with no consideration for reality and no real impact on business. Every day things need be done, it’s work in progress, you take care of one problem, 20 are waiting. And here we are, have to set important stuff aside and prepare for the dog and pony show. So after they gone, we have to run faster and sweat more to catch up.
Especially maddening remarks about recovery, after everybody exhausted by doing 3 people jobs the best they can and there are customers destroying everything in minutes...
Belk has STM’s who didn’t graduate high school. and store managers who can’t type a coherent email.
We had a District Manager at Sears who had no idea know how to use a register or sell appliances. What a joke.
