Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Take this job and shove it!

How many of us have wanted to say this, especially in the last few months? I came close to it a few times and the only thing saving me from doing it is that I have a child to support. I have a manager who is constantly adding to the negativity and favoritism in my store. He is rude, abrasive and NOT at all professional towards his employees or the customers. And now he has taken one of the newcomers under his wing to “mentor”. That’s all we need - another “jr. piehole”.

I finally quit two months ago. I did not give a two week notice. In fact, no notice at all! At noon in the middle of my shift, I took my torn up vest, employee discount card, and termination form and handed them over to HR. When asked if I was going to give a two week notice I said, " I already did. Two weeks ago I noticed that I did not want to work here anymore! "

Worked at Lowe's for thirteen years. First couple of years it was a great place to work and I really felt that I was a part of something special. I was a department manager for various departments and really enjoyed what I did.

Then the greedy little fingers of the Lowe's Corporation entered the picture. No longer did they treat their people with any measure of respect or place any value on the work they did. The associates and managers that I have worked with over the years are some of the finest people I have ever met.

It is the corporation that that seems to have lost its way. The handling of the Covid virus by the company was the last straw. Letting customers with no masks shop the store putting our lives at risk,
half-hearted attempts to disinfect with questionable cleaning products (when available), and a total disregard of recommendations by health officials has sent this humble associate running so fast out of that store that my hair caught on fire

Just turned 65 so I really don't have to work anymore. Got the SSI, Medicare, and some pensions. If I ever get bored I may get a part-time job somewhere less dangerous and less stressful than Lowe's.

Maybe a fireworks factory in Serbia or a custodian in Chernobyl.

Comrades, I wish you all happiness and good health and Godspeed your journey away from the evil empire!

They got rid of delivery at my store left me jobless. Delivery gets the OT so they contracted out the delivery. To cut the store hours but increased the complaints. This store is a circus.

To the guy thinking of retiring. DO IT! When Lowes did away with my job last year I cashed out my 401K and bought some fixer up rental property. Im getting more out of that every month than i ever would of out of the 401K. Retired and got a part time job that I don't really need. I have more money than i got working for Lowes, a lot less stress and only work 1/2 the hrs. There is life after Lowes.

Lowes has showed it's true colors by giving bonus with one hand while cutting staff with the other. When the job market is better I'll be looking for new employment. The future of lowes is high turn over with high workload...

Not a shift goes by anymore where I don't have that same internal dialogue. With each position that Lowe's has eliminated their workload gets shifted onto those that remain. Combine that with the endless cutting of payroll hours which leaves us perpetually short staffed. We had departments with only an opener and a closer even during the peak Black Friday sales weeks. Our store has inventory coming up and our topstock is still a train wreck from the massive reset that occured. Phones ringing non stop with customers complaining about everything known to man. Love how we are now being inundated with customer complaints regarding internet orders (particularly pertaining to appliances) that weren't even sourced to our store that either got canceled, partially filled or got resourced to stores well outside our delivery radius.

Sadly the harsh realization is this is now the new "normal" for Lowe's. Lowe's has always been heavy on "manage by intimidation" but lately even that has gone to new levels. And don't even get me started on the numerous managers that practically never answer their phones or show up to help with customer care issues. I am in the twilight of my decade plus Lowe's career and had hoped to be able to stick it out till retirement. However at the rate things keep getting exponentially worse I fear I could be retiring my red vest any day now. Only thing holding me back is the slump in the job market (due to COVID) and my concern of being without health insurance at this time in my life. Would like to say the writing has been on the wall for a while now but at this point it is flashing in bright lights on a stadium sized billboard. Good luck.
