Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

AIG Compassionate Colleague Fund

Credit where credit is due. There are many critical posts on this site but after seeing this announcement I felt compelled to make a positive comment. Earlier this week AIG announced the creation of this fund to assist employees with hardships during these difficult times.

A few weeks ago there was a post "Well there goes another $4.5M (To NAACP et al) that was critical of AIGs philanthropy. I added a comment that "there are employees who don't necessarily have a lot of resources who could use assistance too. Too much outreach insead of "in"reach." I've read comments that HR or leadership monitor this site. It may be mere coincidence but I can only hope that my comment inspired someone to create this fund. Would be a great example of constructive feedback through this site that normally wouldn't be shared on "anonymous"annual surveys. Very nice gesture and just to preempt any critical comments, no not a leader, just your average everyday AIG team member.

Oh, didn't realize this was a satirical site. AIG is wonderful! They treat their employees so well, especially the ones laid off while managers get their pile. Karma is rough, and greed is one of the deadly sins. They will get theirs someday.

Maybe the Executives should pledge 5% of their STI every year to this fund.

The 150% idea to 25 and below is great idea. Pay these people first, then whatever $$ allocated to bonuses can get divided by those above

To the OP, this is a "Worry" site....its not sunshine, rainbows and Unicorns ( I WISH UNICORNS!!!).
People come here due to the concern of layoffs. AIG has created this environment so.....here we are.
AIG can donate to whatever group they want....but at the end of the day....we are ALL looking over our shoulders and wondering when our number will come.

take a look at the contact page right now. it is a microcosm of this post. you have the newly appointed "transformation leader". another made up exec role to pacify the media.

below that you have the "compassionate colleagues" fund.

below that you have "aig announces executive promotions"

the average employee is an afterthought at aig and always has been. by the way, corporate charity costs aig virtually $0 dollars with tax deductions.

If AIG would commit to giving pay grade 25 and below 150% sti this year as a way to help employees deal with the pandemic it would go a very long way towards employee moral. Giving money to a charity that doesn't apply to me as an employee is nice, but not relevant to how a see AIG as an employer.

Strangely, I agree with both of the two conflicting comments so far. It is much better to take care of internal employees rather than contribute to outside politically motivated causes.

The issue is that AIG is becoming a charity versus an employer. You only get assistance if you are impacted by a hurricane or wildfire or if you are a transgender kid or if you need mental help.

How about the average employee that just does their job everyday? How about the employee that has been here for 10 years and their salary doesn't even keep up with cost of living. They show up, they work hard and when sti rolls around maybe, just maybe you get 100% sti with a 1% annual increase in salary. But AIG can pay execs seven figure salaries, donates millions to outside charities and ask internal employees to fund a charity for their colleagues. It all sounds great from a PR perspective, but I continue to watch top talent walk away from this company even during the pandemic.

Bottom line, charity is great, but take care of your employees first and not just the ones at the top!

Above was very nice but you have to look at the big picture of all the money wasted on system, high level bonus when the worker bees get nothing.
