went For job interview at Dillard’s (seems to be more stable than Belk financially), the interviewing manager stated that Belk’s employees are “fleeing to other retailers” and she knew all the problems belk is facing. Now belk has a bad reputation industry wide.

Dillard’s is much much better than Belk is now, it doesn’t even compare.
Oh god not BelkieBear again, like a bad head cold that won’t go away. Honey, take the Dillard’s job you’ll be fine.
Dillards was better at scheduling and time off than Belk is now, the store is also not a mess like Belk is.
I never asked for dirt, nor wanted to hear any, and certainly didn't offer any on competitors when interviewing candidates.
This person can just as easily start speaking about you to others if you get hired!
Dillards has been on the ropes themselves for far far longer than Belk's recent issues. Of course interviewer would never tell you THAT!
Each of you need to find a compronise between work, environment, personal satisfaction, and of course pay AND benefits. Compromise being key.
Any job that deals with "customer service" is suited for retail workers...including govt/admin positions. Sometimes just a matter of how you package yourself to employers. Since you're a retailer...you should be able to "present and sell your skills".
Good luck. It never hurts to have luck on your side! You'll never have it if you don't learn to occassionally roll the dice in life.
Unprofessional or truthful? Some people mistake blatant honesty for unprofessionalism.
The interviewing manager is unprofessional. Look out.
