Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

I got my answer

I really had high hopes for Black Friday, but if my store is any indication of just how bad things are it's pretty safe to say we are done. Visually, we had maybe a quarter of the numbers (maybe less) of what we normally see on such a huge event. I was waiting to decide on whether to bail or not but this has pretty much made up my mind.

In 2018, ALL the managers knew , before Christmas, that the 3000 plus ( NOT the lowball number BN told the press) were being let go. AND , they know now what’s happening and when. Many Mgrs have left or are leaving. The ones staying are aware.

Hours have been slashed further. This is not a good indicator of the holiday traffic. We were slow on Black Friday weekend. Customers aren’t going to rush stores at the last minute. They’re shopping online..

Even if one person doesn't like them, books will still be around in the 22nd century! Books will outlast the nook!

I can't see paper books going on forever. It just doesn't make sense financially, environmentally or even practically. You can carry a whole library in your pocket now!

Sorry, traditionalists. But welcome to the 21st Century!

Yes . Books will always be around.
People just learned they don’t have to leave home. And ,can pay better prices and get better customer service with Amazon.

It is not you or your store brand, It is the whole industry.

hard copy books will fade away due to carbon footprint and environmental impact. In most houses they are just part of the decor. What a waste to buy a book, read it once and let it collect dust.

May I suggest clay tablets ....

I keep telling the people who are left at our mall store to find something else NOW and GET OUT.
The clock is ticking faster than ever after this bad weekend. I agree find an essential job or some private smaller company where people treat each other with humanity!

I got great deals Online at Amazon and Kohl's with coupons. I'm sure everyone else was doing the same, unless you have to try on clothes, why go out?

Our stores business was halved. Not terrible but half seems to be the best we could muster. Frustrating our store tried hard just not much we can do.

Ours was HORRIBLE. We have no hope of survival. Mgrs sent people home on Friday. Black Friday? Sending people home? Unheard of ! Sent them home Saturday. Then, gutted the schedule for Sunday.

After the holidays I suspect the bankruptcies in retail will really spike. Bad numbers in Q4 mean it is time to throw in the towel.
