Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

GM has a rich heritage, management doesn’t know how to exploit it

This is my take why I never want to work for the big auto companies. I’d bail on GM (and the big three) if a chance arrived, unless I worked in the truck department which has some stability.

Someone once said to me in 2008, “guess why GM is going bankrupt?” And he then goes to say, “name me a GM car that is not boring?”

And that’s the thing, too much of their lineup is boring. And now they are trying to create excitement with EVs, with no way how to deliver other than place the product in back of the showroom. Or use a Cadillac badge, a brand that has lots its value of excitement years ago.

If I ask someone why they are buying a GM vehicle, it is almost always related to a special discount for being family or a special discount from work, or it is old people and it was the product they always get.

Very few 1st time buyers are gonna get a GM. And this issue is the lack of interest. So the pivot to EVs is a Hail Mary for GM. They are behind in Turbo engine tech, CVT tech, and hybrid tech, so go all in on EVs.

Just look at their fuel economy for new vehicles compared to Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Ford. GMs new vehicle fuel economy is lagging. Go ahead y’all, go to EPAs fuel economy website.

Another thing is GM is popular in middle America. Middle America isn’t interested in EVs. Many NASCAR fans are GM loyalist, and they ain’t getting a EV anytime soon.

I wanna see GM succeed. The current and past 30 years of leadership don’t seem to understand GMs rich heritage and how to financially capitalize on it.

That bag of dog feces with GM logo will sell only to employees who feel pressured. Without employee sales, I don’t think GM would still be in business. 90% of GM vehicles are boring and inferior.

I was standing in the Warren Tech Center when Wagner said GM is NOT declaring bankruptcy. I told my co-workers we'll be bankrupt within six months. I was wrong, it was nine.

GM has very vehicles that are actually exciting. The problem with GM, is it's following. Place a bag of dog fecies on the ground with a GM label, and it would sell. Those times are changing in the recent decade. Additionally, with GM abandoning it's iconic logo, it feminizes everything that GM once stood for. It's a neutered logo, must on par with the coolness of a Prius. No one wants a prius, or to be associated with one.

IF you want to start to turn GM around. Get rid of ANYONE UPPER management, 50-55 years or older. Get rid of ANY decision makers, 35 years or younger. That's how you bring back quality.

Get into a 2017 Equinox. It is very difficult to find any car maker have such an outdated product for 2017.

There latest generation of Equinox is the car that they should have been selling 10 years ago.

I think you have to love the GM product to know how to exploit it.

The problem facing GM is that senior management doesn’t dream of cars and trucks.

The think how can I make the Cadillac as similar to the Chevy to keep costs down. So close that no car enthusiast cares when the Cadillac product is released.

If I am getting an EV, it won't be a GM.

If I am getting a generic car that any average Mechanic can fix, and is likely excessively discounted at the dealership, I am getting a GM.

And that is the mindset of many regarding GM, and GM management is to blame.

If they wanna make some money, they should just sell of the naming rites to Pontiac while it still has some value.

GM EV strategy is political, cheating & stupid, which will never be successful.
