It's a new GM again...until the next layoff, strike, criminal deferment, Elon Musk, etc.

Barra is down to only a few markets. She's bet the farm on this new logo.

If she doesn't succeed, it won't only be the end of her, but the end of the automaker.

My money is that she will fail. My other bet is the automaker will be acquired on the cheap.

Hey M Barra Power,

“where gm sells is not interested in ev”, was in reference to the geography in America where GM sells well. GM sells well in parts of America that don’t have a large foreign car dealership presence.

They sell well in jurisdictions that like pickup trucks. This isn’t EV territory. Europe is, and they have pulled out Europe.

All the Media folk that raves about GM EV push aren’t consumers of the domestic automobile manufacturers. And never will be.

Thank you for reading my rant.

Rearranged, GM's new logo says "Elon". I'm thinking this is not a coincidence. Subliminally they're trying to ride Musk's coat tails. Marketing wise, nobody wants an EV, and when they do, they want a Tesla not a Gov't Motor product.

I am in agreement with you about GM designs being uninspired. Just not sure about the comment ...
'where gm sells is not interested in ev...'.

China is a big market for EV's. GM needs to participate there or else they are just a c-appy Ford right now for investors.

I'd say you have reputational issues at GM, not branding issues. If you call a Volt the new Tesla Cobalt, no one is buying. Reputation is trash across all brands and sub-brands through a multi-decade run of cars which are inferior and emBARRAssing to own. Last time GM had its finger on the pulse was 1972. Since then, every year they have produced more and more junk.

The Hummer looks cool but it doesnt really exist. Its release will be delayed substantially. Early models will have mechanical issues not with battery but on the motors... just see all this coming based on the type of company GM is now. Zero chance they can get this product out on time with any quality.

Turns out ACDelco rebranded their packaging in December unaware of a new logo coming out in January.

So ACDelco is still going to be using the old logo for a while.

Management needs to get their act together. It’s gonna take a lot more than a yawner of new logo to save this management caused wreck.

It’s too bad, there was a time when nothing more said Americana, than a GM automobile.

The only decent thing GM had going for it was its logo. Can’t design a quality vehicle worth a darn, but the logo is iconic.

Now, the logo looks like the equivalent of a Prius in vehicle terms, but in logo terms. No one wants to be associated with a Prius. It’s apparent this company doesn’t even know what they want to be. Under case one letter but forget the other. That’s quality stuff right there.

Never in my driveway. Not my money.

GM will take an iconic nameplate, ruin it, and make that nameplate worthless for the future.

Not just the Trail Blazer and Blazer, but now they wanna use the Corvette nameplate as a family SUV.

GM management is thinking in the short term.

Ford leveraged the mustang nameplate to ensure their EV debut is a success. A long term strategy.

Wonder how much it cost them to come up with that new logo? That’s probably why they fired all of us two years ago. See now, wasn’t losing our jobs worth it?

GM has iconic brands, and has turned them into had iconic brands.

Wonder if they’ll waste the GMC Jimmy brand on a GMC version of the Chevy sonic.

Worst part of that statement is oddly enough you know there is a possibility.

They have a branding problem. They have ruined most of their iconic brands.

50 years ago, I’d say “Name me a Luxury brand”, in which you’d say, “Cadillac”. Today, I say, “name me a luxury brand”, you say many things and likely not suggesting a GM product.

Impala was the car all dads had to have, today no one wants to be associated with it.

They decide to make an EV, name it Bolt, make it look stupid and don’t mention it again. Use the Chevy brand on it, IPhone EV lovers aren’t interested.

Chrysler has the Jeep Wrangler for off roading, Ford is to release the much anticipated Ford Bronco this year, Chevy takes the Chevy Blazer name and makes it generic grocery getter.

They tell their Cadillac dealers to spend money on EV infrastructure, or you can take a buyout. 20% of Caddy dealerships took the buyout.

They are considering to make to new brand for EVs. Like really, you have many iconic old brands to use, and build hype. Why not make a Pontiac T-Bird? All these iconic names, and all they do is release at generic product.

It’s like when Apple came out with the IPad, and Blackberry responded with a generic product.

Here is the kicker, in America where GM sells well, happens to be the areas least interested in EVs. In fact the market that is most interested in EVs is Europe, and GM has pulled out of that market altogether.

They have a Branding problem indeed.
