Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

best of comments board

its kind of makes me laugh after reading everyone else post about big ole M yet we do not even know each other or what store but have the same experience's.. so i gather a few comments to post here

1:I’ve only been at Macy’s for 2.5 years and I have seen enough. Give me the severance package so I can focus all that energy on myself. Unfortunately, we are all dispensable to the company so we should all reassess where our loyalties lie
2:To the poster about motivating and inspiring colleagues is spot on. That's because people who are supposed to be "leaders" are far from it. A little training or having the right people in the right place would have made a difference. In addition, treating people with a little dignity would also have been appreciated.
My store manager like some and despise others. Life is miserable to the point of getting rid of people considered in the way. No productivity just misery.
3:I can believe it. If your DVP or RDSO does not like the way you present your self or some other small trait they disapprove of they will make your life (or an executive on your teams) a living hell. Even if you bust your butt and get results for the company. How you are perceived is no longer based upon achieving metrics & goals. Macy’s has become a miserable place to work due to leaders who no longer motivate and inspire their teams. (spot on ! bravo !)

“Someone on that thread asked how would I motivate a beat down, overworked, disillusioned team? The same as any good manager would do for any team, in ANY business.”

I am still waiting on that thread for your coaching tips and advice how to lead through a pandemic with no merchandise, rude customers (like yourself) and a disengaged staff (from the store manger down to a PT associate)

You blow a lot of smoke and post lengthy responses for someone who has no answers and doesn’t even work the company.

When I started 2.5 years ago, they rolled out the red carpet, and shined up that little star in the sky. Unfortunately it wasn’t a couple months in that I realized what I signed up for. An archaic company where the right hand doesn’t talk to the left hand, corporate so disconnected from stores and a “that’s not my job” mentality. I can’t even begin to count how many new managers I’ve had since the beginning.

I’ve continued to fight to try and break the glass ceiling to get a job at the corporate level. Only to be told be recruiters to gain certain experience outside of Macy’s and to come back to the job I want when I gain more experience. I mean, you can’t even get anyone to respond to a nice email when you are trying to make a personal connection and network in the company for growth.

I’ve been told I’m being negative for calling out merchandise designs from private brands that won’t sell in our market or have copied designs from Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Kenzo, Burberry etc. Designs repeated across all brands year after year making them basic and blasé. I mean.... red and black sequins in INC for Christmas ... soooo revolutionary!!

Get some fresh, forward thinking, proactive, young blood in corporate and there might be a chance. I have lost all interest in Macy’s. I never shopped at Macy’s before I started working here and I will not spend a dime here as soon as I’m gone. I could continue forever but I have to save some stories for other purposes.

Good Luck fellow Macy’s peeps. Either you stay on the Titanic or you jump on a life raft and paddle your boat to safety. It’s your choice but just remember, we are all replaceable to Macy’s in the end.

Thank you. Someone who gets it. Otherwise too many butt hurt trollsters here.

My post re. The Gardens was to ask how and why the company (corp), regional, and then store management could and would let a location like this slide into mediocrity and worse?

It had little to do with the associates, doing or not doing their jobs, and everything to do with management not being managers, who lead, motivate, coach, inspire and so much more.

Someone on that thread asked how would I motivate a beat down, overworked, disillusioned team? The same as any good manager would do for any team, in ANY business.

The assocuates working there one assumes needs their jobs and incomes? You work, we work, to not only protect our jobs but to make our performance of such value that we won't be closed without thought, like chaff onto the dirt. Can a company still close our doors regardless of our work? Yes of course. That is a given.

But as a team of individuals, if we simply do our best each day. Some days better than others, maybe some not at all. If we come to work and be the best we can each day and leave with the pride knowing we have and we did, then that speaks to the human nature in each of us to want to succeed and to be appreciated, if by no one else than a manager doing their best to support and work with the team and at the very least by ourselves taking self satisfaction and yes a few bucks home each day. Sisyphus understands as do some of you. Others of you, Don Quixotes.

Now please, stay safe, be well and enjoy the ride for whatever it's worth.
