Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Oxy is best seen from distance

While working here, I knew that management was not the best, but I always had doubts that I might not be the best worker either. In fact, I mostly blamed myself.
Some things are probably not seen clearly when you are here, so only when you leave this company do you see things for what they are. I literally started breathing again.
I just had a need to tell all those who feel like bad workers, that it’s just an imposed sense of guilt and that it’s completely false. Leave as soon as possible, you will be get more appreciation almost everywhere.

@2upo, stubbornly holding onto OXY stock is your fault, not ours. Ever hear of diversification?

Also, owning a stock is not like owing a CD, although in the case of OXY stock, you'd be worth more today if you had sold your OXY shares and put the proceeds into CDs. Ouch!

You will get a bonus and raise equivalent to the percentage that the stockholders are getting. No promotion. If you don’t like we can let the door hit you in the backside on the way out.

OP key points to me: 1. Management is not the best. Agreed. Especially the Asset Managers are over their heads. No need for two extra layers of micromngt. I have seen excellent Asset Managers with solid technical and business skills driving teams and making successful presentations at professional society meetings. I personally think No Oxy Asset Manager could compare to one from Shell or XOM. 2. Appreciation: I am hoping it will come in form of a bonus, salary increases or promotions in 2021.

2020 has been an accumulation of realizations that Oxy has made a lot of mistakes under the current CEO. We've seen it get knocked off the S&P 500, "Best Managed" Companies list, brought down a notch or two on glassdoor and seen the company break a lot of promises along the way. I am constantly surprised that Oxy keeps on keeping on with the poor managers and continues to be a place where value equates to how much you brag about yourself. Under VH, Oxy has gone from valuing teamwork, ingenuity and collaboration to who you know and how well you set yourself apart from the pack. Oxy is definitely not the company it used to be. It's a place where your career either dies or a place where it takes on new verticals if you're great with brown-nosing and playing the game.

Ten years ago Oxy was not like this. It was much better run back then. We complained about Dr. Ray prior to that but even he had better executive management compared to today. He was a real expensive dude but he got meaningful growth results and added lots of value. Those were the days my friend, I thought they’d never end..........

The problem is not limited to manager quality. The sheer number of managers is bewildering. I've never seen so many overlapping teams and redundancy in my 30+ year career.

ExOxy here. I agree with op. I felt trap working at Oxy under management that were lead by guys who look like sloppy t–ds and have Zero management skills. How they got their promotion is puzzling. I have seen many exOxy who have left and go on to prosper. I do believe how Oxy pick their management isn't by skills. It's by who's ego they have been stroking.
