Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Will any techinal employee(non management) be able to build a career here anymore?

It seems to me that those days are over, when people stayed here and managed to build yechnical careers ( non management). Maybe it was actually a wrong decision to be tied to one place for years, but  look what is happening now. This is simply no longer a place where technical people want to stay, nor is it a place that wants to keep talented people. Tragic !!

Simply aboloshing the T scale would save a tremendous amount of money. There are few that have advanced T5 that produce much and cost $$

Meanwhile if you are in the M ladder, getting to T5 level is a breeze, it is a function of time ...takes about 8 to 10 years...just keep your boss happy.

Getting rewarded for * vision and leadership* ( read sychophancy and mediocrity) is so much more important than doing lab based technical work these days

the internal jobs are not even advertised anymore,, just given to who's face fits

Advancement past T4A is hard, past T5 is quickly becoming a matter of luck/favor/politics. My advice is that if a person is not clearly favored to be on a fast track to T6 or T7 that they leave the company around T4 and go elsewhere to advance.

Join 3M , get few years of experience, leave after first promotion....that is what millennials are doing. That is the smart thing to do these days !!!
