Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Searching for alternatives...

Things are becoming unbearable here and if I don’t get laid off after the New Year, I intend to urgently find another job.

However, my skillset holds me back (I know, I’m to blame for that). I’m in a cashier position here but I’m getting old and have a hard time learning new things.

I will probably stay in the retail sector but I am inquiring what alternatives people have who are in a similar situation as me.

Take advantage of the $1 a day college.

The only thing that kept me hanging around is the cheap health insurance albeit doesn't really pay that much unless you have a major surgery. Once I found another job with decent benefits I left. I would suggest Amazon because you get benefits immediately BUT they are very strict with breaks which are 10 minutes. Also they have a huge monitoring system and if you get caught slacking off a little they drop the hammer on you.

Never give up on leaving that place. Quit telling yourself you have no skills! Walmart got to you!

Remember this - Retail is Retail.. Home Depot and Target do threat employee's better than most. But at the end of the day objective numbers ( sales/credit applications for example), staffing levels or turn over are all same in any retail environment.

Look outside of retail as well, apply for positions and work your resume to fit the posting. The worst that can happen you don't get a call or you say no to something,
