Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

with or without a pandemic...

When those in charge blame their failures on pandemic I sort of understand... but when I hear from colleagues that they too blame the pandemic for everything, I feel sick. I thought it was clear to everyone that things were going downhill long before the pandemic. Even if the pandemic hadn’t happened, I doubt the situation would be much better now??? Or am I wrong? I do not deny that COVID sped things up, but it is not the only cause of the problems here.

CORRECT - customers already leaving in droves, pandemic was just a fast forward button.

Where?

To Poster: I understand your frustration. Watching my colleagues stay at a company that worked against their own self interests for years but seeing no action from them, instead complaints, I decided to leave luckily before COVID hit. When I announced my departure, the upper level management seemed encouraging and understanding (and I could tell they were also planning their departures). All I saw from the lower level employees was laziness and complacency. Clearly no lessons learned during COVID, many “everyone is doing poorly due to COVID!” Posts (completely untrue, only sh–ty companies are faring poorly), and many of these employees will continue to build Xerox the noose that they will turn around and use to hang them with in the end.

As with anything like this the answer is somewhere in the middle. We’ll never know what 2020 might have looked like without the pandemic. You’re right - things certainly weren’t looking good - but it’s really a fuzzy answer that comes down to opinion the degree to which the pandemic affected Xerox and what degree is just the leadership either screwing up or (imo) intentionally cutting costs at the peril of the employees. Unless of course you’re privy to some pretty high up information it’s just a guess and anyone’s view is equally valid - just guesses.

Also every other answer you get is going to be “shameful! Xerox bad! Johnny Vas---ne! Old days! Instant collapse!” I understand why, but this discussion (more or less) has played out on this board before and no new info or views are ever introduced because the remaining posters here scream first, process later.

Your raise is frozen indefinitely

My favorite line from my executive team "my hands are tied, Xerox has us on raise freeze" but I'm giving you more responsibility" . My response, good luck finding my replacement.
