Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

Engineer

I have been with IOL for 5 + years after I graduated from UA with an engineering degree. I have worked in different business teams ( pricing, controller...)

I am upset because If I get laid off, i am afraid I will never be able to find a job of my background....

Just having a degree doesn't open up doors immediately. Nice to have but you still have to work for your opportunities. Engineering is still abound with opportunities but keep in mind that you will have to be okay with cheaper pay with a lot of working hours or else the job will go to someone in India. That's just the reality in today's business.

Never give up. Fight fight fight. Polish up your resume. Look at the market. Engineer or not, doesn't matter. Personality and then skill is the matter

You can always go back to school and use that to apply for jobs in other industries. There’s engineers in tech, mining, finance etc. Work on to your resume meanwhile.

Crikey mate, layoffs happen. I understand the feeling of anxiety and uncertainty, but this doesn't spell the end, for crying out loud mate you;re an engineer and the last time I checked those bloke where driving the train sorta speak (no pun intended) you have to roll with the punches and have some confidence in yourself, because the grass is is usually greener in other pastures especially if you have a degree to fall back on, you might just have to relocate to where the jobs are—good luck mate!
