Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

How hard is it to stay positive?

From someone who got laid off a year ago for no reason at all, in downstream calgary, my advice is to be positive about it. Being laid off was the best thing that happened to me. Not only did I benefit financially through the various things offered but I got a higher paying and better job within a month in a different more stable industry. I gained through the lay off and it was a blessing.

I love these optimistic comments, like this one written by @1sah+186arlMh on another thread. Still, it is difficult to maintain optimism that all will be well, because I think that those who are threatened with dismissal now are not in the same position as those who were fired last year before the pandemic caused major market shocks.

At the end of the day this is just a job and not your whole life. You won’t die tomorrow.

Some people are competent enough to get a similar or better job while others at imperial are lazy and complainers and will probably not find something better.

I think the point here is that there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Regardless of age, you can use your current skillset or upgrade your skills to the next level, and get a better job at another company or form your own company.

Have a winners attitude and mindset and not a losers. That’s what differentiates people. Don’t let the toxicity get to you.

because this place s—s...?

How do we stay positive when we work in a place as toxic as this? It's taken a downturn to really bring it out, but this place s—ed even before covid. Young people leave this company at an alarming rate, and those that stay spend their careers s—ing up to managers, who s— up to american managers.

Is anyone at this company positive even when there isn't layoffs happening?
