In any line of work, you’re never safe especially in these unfortunate times. While it’s not ideal, it’s nice that Crown has provided a severance package that at least gets you by for 2 months + depending on your tenure. It doesn’t hurt to have your resume ready and possibly throw a fishing line out and see what bites, while crown is an amazing company to work for, there are other companies out there very similar to crown. Just never assume you’re safe.
With that said, I would definitely expect another round, possibly much smaller and maybe focused In departments outside of networks since that’s been hit the hardest. The reason for the cuts is said to be due to role eliminations which from what I see is not an incorrect statement however, you do need to consider the pipeline for 2021 is down significantly and due to COVID, the merger of TMUS/SPT, the delay in dish, we will not hit our guidance for this year I suspect. Also add in that DTO is working to create better systems and automation which will eliminate some roles as well.
My only gripe with the entire process is that there could have been better communication. In the end, this is a business and we are all adults, we understand how this shirt works and will accept whatever outcome it is. Also, there are people that got let go that are not replaceable while those that are were kept or saved. Same roles. Most Managers had no inputs and had no clue till the day prior. So the decisions were from the VPs that are legacy fiber and don’t even know who they fired or what experience they let go. Remember legacy small cells managed both fiber and small cells projects so to say a fiber PM is more important than a Small cel PM is null and void. This was based on favoritism. I also imagine they looked at compensation as a first along with relationships hence the huge amount of small cel talent released vs their peers in fiber. That’s a huge miss and lack of vision.
