I was impacted in the last round of layoffs and was wondering if anyone who is in my age bracket (45+) has had any luck finding employment within the industry? So far, I have had no luck. I have even expanded my search area but it’s slim pickings. It feels like no one will hire because of my age, and there really isn’t much I can do about it…

A bit older than you and got dumped after nearly 30 years of service to Nationwide. I found a better job make much more money than I did with NW. Glad to not looking over my shoulder and dealing with the stressful office politics so prevalent at Nationwide. Other than the last 5 years, I loved my time at NW and loved the people with whom I worked. It was so disappointing to see the growth of nepotism and narcissism in senior leadership over the recent years.
Susan Gueli the CTO laid off landed a Gig at a 380 person company in Bethesda MD called CSS. Shows how hard it is to land a job if old if she took that little gig in middle of nowhere
Sorry to know. What kind of work you were doing?

I was able to find a job within the company after I was given my notice. And I'm way over 45. Good luck to you!
It is a pandemic and the industry is in cost cutting and downsize mode with automation across the board. I suggest you look at transferable skills you may have across various industries and apply everywhere. You may also need to eat your pride and accept a lower position and pay cut. It is just the nature of the beast when you get laid off at your age. Being mobile and willing to move helps as well. There may also be new remote work from home opportunities now. Good Luck. I'm sorry you are having a tough time.
